The best fuild you can put in your transmission no matter if it has 1 miles or 500,000 miles is what the manufacture recommends. Sometimes manuf. say is ok to use other brand but just as temporally solution. So I would just buy it from the dealer they usually less than 5 dollar a quart.

Hey Alex after hours of research I think I found some information to base my first post… Like I say I’m no mechanic here but have great acknowledge of honda engine and issues since I have been reading about them for the past 3 years non stop :). Attach is a TSB for honda accord v6 which share almost the same engine as yours and they even have an audio..It may not sound like yours but I think the reason for that is you car has already a lot of mileage and I have read this noise start on car that even has only 30k so go figure…I also found that this issue you having is HUGE with your model there ARE forum online that have over 30 pages of people complaning about this. Most of them complain about dealer always recommending valve adjus. with same results….Like I say I can just provide you with the information I can’t give you a guidence on where to go from here since I haven’t done that type of work on this engine.

        Good Luck.

Oh brother that doesn’t sound good. Sound like a piston slap or rod bearing knock.I’m not sure if this work maybe someone can verify this before you try it. But I think if you have a piston slap and if you disconnect the coil pack to the cylinder it suppose stop making the noise. And you can identify which Cylinder is making the noise.

Agree with everyone they are well worth. Quick-strut are the closest thing you can to OEM ride from Monroe. They also have one call eco-matic which are also complete set but they don’t offer the same type of conform as the Quick Strut. But at the same time you need to do some math and thinking. If you car is in excellent shape and you are not planing to change in the next 2 to 3 years go with the quick strut . But if you think you car will not last that long just get eCO-MATICand save some money…Something I forgot to mention quick strut have lifetime warranty. Eco-matic don’t have nada.

Since you say is coming from the left side I think 99 civic has crankshaft pulley on the left side. Check the crankshaft seal by the pulley when those leak it very hard to find the leak until you take the pulley out and check out..

ThEsE are always mounted some where in the transmission assembly. Check this link from ebay it has a little picture I hope it helps. Also sometimes what I do and most of the time it works it just take out the the neutral switch assembly and just put a little of grease around just a little bit and work like a charm.
