I appreciate your input Fertro. My mother actually owns a 2002 Honda CR-V and she averages about 23 mpg. That’s why I’m steering away from small suvs as well as I’d like to finally drive a vehicle that gets more than just 20-24 mpg. As you said though, it probably wouldn’t take too long to get used to driving a car. I guess I’m also worried that a little car wouldn’t hold up as well over the long run as my Ranger has. At this point I’m not sure which way I’ll go though I will say that getting 33-34 mpg would put a big smile on my face (even if it was in an uncomfortable car).

Back to the drawing board I guess. Hopefully work will come along soon and I can just trade her in for a 4 cylinder Tacoma. I just hope the old girl lasts that long.

Thanks again for all of the input everyone. I’m still up in the air about which vehicle to go with which is why I was wondering about the Escape since I see so many of them around. To be honest though, I’ve wanted a 2001-2004 4×4 4 cylinder Toyota Tacoma in an automatic for years now, but the problem is that the people that own them never seem to get rid of them.

I know this is a stretch, but could the loss of power be a timing issue? I had my brother replace the timing belt a few years ago and I have no idea if he actually did it right. I just thought I’d throw that out there in case timing issues are known to cause power loss.

Can you tell I’m no mechanic?

I’ve never had a problem with the transmission. It shifts smoothly every time. It does have a tiny leak at the pan, but the last time I needed to add trans fluid was over 3 years ago.

Just thought I’d give a quick update. After the initial test drive after I cleaned the MAF, the truck went right back to being as slow as can be. Earlier today I took step two and removed the O2 sensor before the cat and took it for a little drive and again nothing changed. I guess I’ll move onto cleaning the throttle next. I’ll keep you guys posted whenever I can.
