Slugde can come from a few things, wrong type of oil, mixture of diffent type of oils, also engine coolant (white), or a problem whit the crankcase ventilation system. The crankcase ventilation system needs replacing when dealing whit lots of oil consum. Incl engine software upgrade and the cranksealents. If this wont solve the isseu the engine needs replacement.
The 2.0T FSI needs to have 5W30 whit a ACEA C3 (or beter) coding and a VW 504.00/507.00 coding.

Drop that oilpan, and clean it out, you wont flush it out, period.

Solder brake line, needless to say, that it was a technical failure of its yearly MOT.

That is a way to do it 😛

I know, every one has there own way to do his diagnostics, online we can only point out the commenfaults.

Here you can see a commenfault on the B6, the oilpump is drivin by a hexagon, yes the same size every mechanic and tech has in there toolbox 😉 . THese wear over time and turn round, causing the oilpump to lose pressure, offten the pump will pump just enough that the light will stay off, but the bearings are well, gone, same goes for the crankshaft

I dont what to be kinda rude, but i have heard this noise before, and i was every time a problem whit the oil supply. Are you using the proper oil? Both the grade and VW grading? is the pressure ok, is the oil level ok? Does the eninge use any oil?

Is it a 2.0 T or a 2.0 20V T, any a engine code would help a lot to determine what kind of oilpump is on this engine, since there are some that are know to fail.

I have to say, these discussions are interesting, why the tech shut buy his tools, or not. What Chevy pointed out, is i think the best answer, “Here is different, different people different culture”

Shop tools are normally used abused and put away broken and specialty tools normally are the same but, are supposed to be provided. Hell the last 2 yrs I had to make tools before my brand actually made them because they put out the vehicles before the tooling. We are lucky if we see it 6mo later.

Not every brand is like that but…..
With respect, I believe it has more to do with what my dad told me: People were stealing and breaking tools left and right so shops had no choice but to force techs to bring their own tools. This practice has been adopted going back to the 70s according to my dad and since then, more and more shops here in the USA have adopted the practice. An investment of tools also shows dedication and an investment in your career.
Nope, that is more a mind set of the people that work whit the tools, at the end of every day i clean my tools, and workcar bench, laptop etc, ( so, its after 5 ( i work from 07:30 to 17:00)), and make sure there all in place. If there is some thing broken i reqeust a new one from my suprivisor, and get one. I think that hapens 3 to 4 times a year.

Oh, putting new cars ob the road before the tools and even technical documentation or training happens also here  . I have a brand new, wont say the make and type, car, whit a fault, so i have to call the hottline, and they dont have the documention either, so we cant deliver the car to the costumer….

I see now that you have a wideband sensor, missed that part, you need to check the ampflow of itm whit either a diagnostic tool, or a good clamp ammeter, i use a automotive scoop for these sensors to check them. You will need to figure out what kind of brand of sensor you have, to determine what kind of measurementyou will do, on a Bosch and NTK volt measerments are possible, altough i tend to go for a clamp ammeter.

Ive added a measerment as a example how a wideband sensor shutlook like on a volt and am measement, not saying, that youre vehicle is the same, but just to give you a idea of a bosch wideband
The top one is the pump cell, this one has to be around the 0.45V, if you accerate or decerate it can go up or down depending on the mixture state. It will puls up an down 8 to 10 times a second, it can be even more when going to accelerate ;).
The second one is the amflow of the pumpcel, not sure why my scope shows my measerment as a volt , but that aint the point, you can see that the pumpcel is moving O2 parts in or out of the wideband sensor to keep a λ=1.

The problem whit P0420 is, that the cat only can be replaced after the orgine of the problem has been identifeed. If you do other whise 🙁 -2.3 on the long aint that bad, that is actuly normal. Not any that i would be consindering as a part of the problem 😉
The +12 is part of the enrichment for the catalyst to do its job, it can be to +25/-25, so it aint that bad :cheer: .

How did you check for airleaks, breakcleaner of a smokedetector? A nasty pipe maybe the vacumhose to the brakebooster, whitch can cause this isseu 😉

Checking for faultcode’s is step#1`, skipping this step is plain stupid.
The problem might be in the ignition, sparkplugs, ignitionleads. These are the most commen isseu’s whit these kinds of complaints

How are the longfeultrims and the shortfeultrims? What are the MAF/MAP readings, feulpresseure ok? No airleaks in the inleat- or exaustsystem?

How is the ignition system working? a faulty coil pack in the past can cause a cat to burn out, just replacing a cat without taking away the original problem is a guarantee for a returning problem and a waist of money

Wait??????????, you have to bring you’re own tools to the shop? That’s em kinda weird?? how do i say it, over here my employer buys the tools we need. We have 6 technicans in the workshop ( we have 12 shops in total), and each and every one has there one set of tools…. So kinda suprised that you guys have to buy youre own tools

If the switch realy is broken, then it wont work it all. How ever there a few tricks to get them up and running again, to get you to the dealer ship. When it happens, try to lift the key, under a light angle (dont force any thing), and then start again. 9 out of 10 times it wil pick it up 😉
