Hello, make sure that the voltage regulator on the alternator is getting battery power. If there is a break in that wire the alternator won’t charge, which is what sounds like is happening with your van.

That’s what I was thinking. Probably going to get a motorcraft hub because a friend works at the dealership and can get one at a discount.

        Thanks!

Your other option is to rent a flaring tool from advance auto parts. It takes some practice, but it is nice to have exact length brake lines. If you do buy pre flared lines just make sure to use a threaded coupler instead of compression fittings. Also, another trick when using the cheaper flare tools is to file the end of the line you are flaring once you have it in the clamp. Squared ends when flaring is crucial. Other than that it’s a fairly simple job, just time consuming. Good Luck!

I have done a transmission in one of these cars before. Very easy to do in fact you can pull the engine and tranny out through the top if you remove the brake booster. The one I did was a 2005. I put a used tranny in it which was $250. After putting it in and adding some new fluid it worked great! Used parts are usually the way to go with older vehicles. Rebuilt transmissions usually never last, and never work properly either. I could never figure out how the transmission in mine failed. I bought the car with the bad transmission and the differential on the transmission was completely split in half. I would go the used route, save some money and be on your way. It’s always cheaper to keep her.

Sounds like the switch in the steering column is worn out. Pretty simple to replace, but you have to pull the steering wheel off which will require a puller. You could also try getting them to work while tilting the column up and down to see if they work which would also point to the switch, or wiring going to it. However, since you said they work, but only in certain positions I would suggest a new switch.

Actually the fuel pressure was never dropping. it turns out that my gauge was bad so I guess that was my fault. I hear you on the cheap parts though. I guess I learned my lesson, Thanks Eric, stay dirty!

Ok so I thought I would update everyone and put the mystery to rest. After I spent an afternoon at a chevy dealership, $250 later I was told that the pcm was not at fault, and that my wiring was bad. The car ran but barely at this point. And while the car was in the techs bay it sprang a major oil leak from the pressure sensor which they tried to charge me $80 to replace. So I drove it home oil leaking, and went on the search for a wiring harness the next day. It took me 5 hours to find one that had only been cut in a few places, but I got one and put it in the next day. Once again the problem persisted, but voltages that were skewed prior were now fixed. So I began some very in depth diagnosis for the next week when I figured I would unplug the MAF to see if it would run. And to my surprise the car immediately started without any hesitation. So today I put another brand new one in and the car is fixed, including the fuel trim numbers. Now I just have to sell it. I just couldn’t sell it the way it was, I mean it started fine when it was cold, so I could have in theory pulled one on someone, but that’s just not right. So stay away from ebay sensors I guess is the moral of the story. The sad part is that both new sensors were providing the same output, but I guess the ebay one had another issue.

Well the dealer pit in the new PCM, and it didn’t fix it, so now I’m having them diagnose it at $90 an hour.

No it still wont crank if I do that, but I spoke with a chevy technician, and we troubleshooted some stuff and he said the pcm is bad, so I actually have one, but I have to get it programmed so it will run the car. That should fix it, I will let you know.

well I don’t have a vacuum gauge, but it seems strong if i take it off and put my finger on it it clings to it. It seems to have great vacuum, it has no leaks, but its running rich and seems starved for air during 50% of start ups. because if I open the trottle plate the slightest bit it will fire right up. Heck even If i take the pcv o ring out it will start, or if I take the vacuum line off the brake booster it will start. Also When I look at my live data and compare it to normal start vs no start there are no differences. Its damn frustrating.
