Thanks again to everyone. Eric I am working towards my Mechanic License. Right now I am an apprentice mechanic that is working around the clock to get better. Your videos, working on my own vehicle, and studying. Things are getting better and better. Thank you so much. When I first started out I did not even know how to do an oil change properly. Now look at where I am at. It’s amazing what we can do when we work hard and focus.
Thanks to everyone that has contributed. It’s always great to hear other people perspective. Thanks again everyone.

May 17, 2012 at 11:00 am in reply to: Toyota 4 Runner Power Steering Rack Replacement (Part 1) #456037Thanks to everyone. I have to admit I was not thinking properly when I said to cut it. Thanks for straightening me out.
Thanks for all of the information. I checked the engine oil level again yesterday and I realized that I had put in way too much engine oil into to the system. The engine oil is in the correct operating range. Subsequently, the vibration has significantly been reduced. In addition, I don’t feel any vibrations when I am driving at a speed greater than 10 km per hour.
Thanks to everyone for the input. I was not specific about my problem. Here a more complete assessment.
1998 CHEVY ASTRO 4.3 L VORTEC ENGINE 306,000 KM
ISSUES: ENGINE OVER HEAT, COOLANT LEAK FROM THE RADIATOR.
I HAVE ELIMINATED THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEMS.
1) I CHANGED THE RADIATOR AND THE RADIATOR LEAK WENT AWAY.
2) I FIXED THE LOWER OIL COOLER LINE THAT CONNECTS TO THE RADIATOR
3) I ADDED TO ENGINE OIL TO THE VEHICLE TO BRING THE OIL LEVEL BACK TO THE NORMAL OPERATING RANGE.
4) I BLED THE COOLANT SYSTEM BY ADDING COOLANT AND RUNNING THE ENGINE AS I DID IT FROM ABOUT 30 – 45 MINUTES. NOW THERE IS NO OVERHEAT PROBLEM.
THE ONLY ISSUE THAT I HAVE IS THAT THERE IS A REALLY STRONG VIBRATION COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE THAT I HAVE NEVER HAD BEFORE.
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT.
Thanks to everyone for their advice. The problem was solved by adjusting the throttle cable. The vehicle had been in the same spot for about a year and the cable need to be loosened up. Thanks again to everyone.
Joescorpio, you are so right about that. Each video has so much useful information. I can’t think of anywhere online that you get some much complete automotive information.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

I continue to hear stories like this all the time. Mechanics that are exiting the field because they are not able to make the money that they need to survive. All of this boils down to our attitudes. If we look at things so dimly we have been defeated before we even start. It’s been my experience that in order to get ahead you will have to do things that other people will not do. The 9-5 just is not sufficient these days. Why ? It’s because the Government and the Employer are set out to destroy you. Work you more and pay you less. I have worked in shops where there is no work coming in and the ” Licensed Mechanics ” would not ever do something outside of the job to eat bread. Just look around times are changing. It’s really every Animal for them self in terms of making money.
MOST COMPANIES DON’T CARE IF YOU LIVE OR DIE. IT’S ALL ABOUT THEIR CASH FLOW. SO WE HAVE TO TAKE THAT APPROACH WITH THE COMPANY. MAKE YOUR MONEY, SAVE IT AND KICK THE COMPANY TO THE CURVE WHEN YOU ARE READY BECAUSE THEY WILL DO IT TO YOU. NOW COMPANIES ARE SO SNEAKY THAT THEY WILL PROVOKE YOU SO YOU QUIT AND CAN’T GET WHAT IS DUE. IN ADDITION, WHEN YOU LEAVE A COMPANY TAKE THEIR CLIENTS TOO. MECHANICS USUALLY DON’T HAVE TO SIGN CONTRACTS WITH NON-COMPETE CLAUSES. I SAY DO THE JOB WELL AND CHARGE LESS IT’S A GREAT WAY TO CRUSH THE OTHER SHOPS.
Personally, if you are willing to work and use your brain there is money in any field. However, if you think that being lazy will make you rich think again. I’m seeing more and more empty garages that are running themselves into the ground and I smile because they are stuck doing things in a manner that is self-destructive. I’m convinced that the only people that will survive in the Automotive Industry are the people who are in tune with the customers.
CUSTOMER’S WANT :
1) Excellent Customer Service
2) Fair Prices
Over charging will never make you rich. It will put you out of business. The present shop model is garbage. Extremly high over that is a result of poor financial management that the customer should pick up the tap on. Totally Wrong. If the work is not coming to you. You will have to go to it. Garages need to be open like 7/11 around the clock.
Great information. I have a 1/2 impact wrench, 3/8 ratchet and now I need to get a 3/8 impact wrench. The more I do in this field the more excited I become. Thanks again to everyone for their input. What does everyone think about tools manufactured by Hyundia. I have an air ratchet and a tire guage from them. Please let me know.
Oh by the way. What do you think about the cordless impact wrenches ? My concern is that if something happens to the battery it might be to expensive to repair wheras pneumatic tools can be fixed more easily.
Thanks. I will check it out.
