Did you run a compression test after replacing the head. I would assume that would be the first thing you’d do but you didn’t say.

Dexron III and Mercon III are easiest to find. Nissan Matic J (never heard of it but never owned a Nissan) would probably be a dealer only item. You can pick up DexIII/MercIII at any autoparts store.

Replacing a TCC solenoid would make a good video. We get that one every now and then for Mazda 626/MX-6/Ford Probe automatics. Only thing I tell people to do is take it to a mechanic. Tearing down a transmission is beyond most weekend warrior’s ability and especially beyond Grandma’s ability.

Anyone thought of bad PCV or PCV valve? I throw that out there since a PCV valve is very easy to check.

Tried calling your local Honda dealership? They should be able to look up the information the factory service manuals.

I like the interactive stuff too like FATR showing the communication you have with users. One thing that really surprised me when I first visited the site is that there isn’t a dedicated forum to contact you for submitting stuff like that. I would like to see a forum category for FATR contributions and another category for “Suggest a Video Topic” and stuff like that. The category we are posting in right now is meant for website feedback. It actually makes trying to get in on that fun interaction we all see in FATR’s very hard to do. I certainly don’t want to be a gib and post a video for you to check out by posting it in the wrong place on your forums. Should you have dedicated forums just for that stuff? Absolutely! It’s why I registered on the site. I figured here there would be a specific place to do that, there is not.

I do like the interaction on realfixesrealfast. One of the neat things about that is those kind of puzzles are eternal for first time viewers. I’d love to sit down and play the detective like some interactive automotive version of the Maltese Falcon. It’s great and does keep me going back there to watch more. So yeah get up some dedicated forums designed to promote interactivity with your video segments and you might find more activity on your channel and site in the long run. Just don’t burn yourself out for our sake. If you make it hard to interact on purpose because you fear being innudated with a deluge of requests and/or suggestions that’s completely understandable.

If you provide the year, make, model maybe someone could suggest something. You haven’t given us enough information to recommend much other than ummm start the car and see how it runs. Try and pull some codes. Fix the issues. If not post some relevant information so you can help us to help you.

Generally when a car has been sitting for a long time the battery will be dead, tires need air, and fluid drain down to the bottom of whatever surface they are supposed to lubricate. Check the battery, tires, and run the car for a while to get everything lubricated again internally.

Automatically changing words are known as filters. They are different than spellcheckers as they automatically replace words. For example curse words are replaced with (sensored) or something like that on most forums. With that said I think some automotive specitic filters would be awesome. We could finally see people stop mispelling cylinder, PCV (people call it PVC all the time), vacuum, and other words. That would be a neat feature.

Generally you’ll want to do gradual changes. Flushing is too harsh of a change for older transmissions.

Yeah IPB or VBulletin have the most features not just for users but for moderators and admins as well. It could make things a little easier around here. There are a lot of features or perhaps just settings on this forum that I don’t like such as not being able to edit an old post or even one that I just made. The swear word filters are way too restrictive and have even seen Eric get censored. Don’t get me wrong the forum is nicely made but lacking in features that most of today’s forum users expect.

I love Techno. Right now the new dubstep stuff is really high quality stuff. Musically it’s something very new and enjoyable. Some Probes and MX-6’s from 1993-1995 have EEC-IV (4) and by that I mean certain factory configurations like the 2.0L automatic. EEC-V (5) does seem to be Ford’s segway between OBD-I and II so it was odd to see a 1995 626 have EEC-IV instead of EEC-V. Why? I don’t know. EEC-IV was used right up until the OBD-II switch. Check and double check to make sure you have EEC-V and not EEC-IV. Some Ford and Mazda owners have been finding out they did actually use EEC-IV (not EEC-V) all the way up until OBD-II.

There isn’t a comprehensive list yet as to exactly what make, model, year, and packages were configured with EEC-(version) or MECS. Scan reader companies like Actron and Innova have pretty good lists that come with their scanners. As I’ve found out, even they don’t know every single car that uses EEC and it’s part of their job to figure stuff like that out. Just because you have a 2.3L doesn’t mean another 2.3L owner will have the same diagnostic system. From what I’ve learned it’s usually the difference between automatic and manual owners.

This happened the most during 1995 as car manufacturers were setting up for OBD-II. A lot of weird stuff was happening in 1995 like they couldn’t make up their minds what system to put in the cars. More than likely it’s going to be EEC-V just like rrbrian said. Never hurts to double check though.

Ranger Station is a huge resource for Ranger owners. Anytime I hear the name Ranger I think of that site and I’ve never owned a Ford. It helped me a lot in figuring out my 1995 Mazda 626 has EEC-IV. I’ve written up a lengthy article on EEC-IV on the Mazda forums. I will actually have a video up on youtube about it shortly that I think is going to help a lot of people. By the way the Innova 3145 works great with EEC-IV. I can personally attest that it works great in my Mazda 626 anyway.
