I actually called my local dodge dealer this morning and they stated that I should be able to just retrofit this A/C and possibly replace the dryer then test for leaks and functionality/noises using R134a. He said the hoses should be fine and that if I charge the system up a bit and it’s quiet and has no leaks that it would work fine but if not then think about replacing the compressor too. But he did mention that as long as there’s nothing clogged in the other parts, the compressor and dryer would be where to start and then move forward from there if there are any remaining issues. I guess my main concern was whether or not I would need to make some new custom a/c lines or find ones that are the right legnth to use in this vehicle. I will be very happy if it all works out this way. I’ll reply here when I get ahead a few steps for anyone else following this.

I have a similar issue with a van of mine and looking into it, it was more money than it was worth to fix at a mechanic shop as well. I looked into it some and it seems sometimes the modules go bad because there is a bad ground or maybe even a solder point that’s loose on the board. I haven’t ripped mine apart yet to check but maybe that’s somewhere you can start before spending the money on new parts or car. I did have an issue one day where I went to move my van and the brake lights and abs lights were no longer coming on and the breaks didn’t lock up like they normally do on a small move like that. I’m thinking my issue could possibly be intermittent but I wont know for sure until I take the time to diagnose it. I’ll follow this post in case I can get some answers as well.

It wasn’t the Throttle stop screw that was adjusted, I believe it was the Idle Bypass Screw on the Throttle Body. I will take a look at it again when she comes home to make sure, but it was a screw that allowed more airflow into the intake through the Throttle body. Her car seems to have no issues at this point and has been driving fine and starting with no problems. I obviously want to fix the problem and not put a band-aid on it. I will check out the videos and read the information on the Idle post. Thank you for posting, I’m not sure why that didn’t come up when I was searching the forum. Also, This car does not have an FITV from what I understand since it’s a ’97.
