Hey, OP, maybe toss in a small turbo? Besides, Aveos basically being a Suzuki Areo (f-rs even saved on name, changing only ONE letter) should be quite a decent car.
No turbo for wife. If she goes another month without a speeding ticket I’ll hook up another spark plug. 🙂

oh yes. Been married 30 years. Winning an argument can be worse than loosing.
I think Europe and U.S. use different octane rating systems; Don’t know how you do it in N.Z.

Got silicone paste from JB Tool Sales. Click “Tools” at top of this page. Good price, quick ship.

Another advantage in driving a beater is insurance. You can carry liability and not worry about comprehensive/collision for the car. If it breaks big time (usually transmission), send it to the wrecking yard and get another beater.
Clearcoat failure has been my friend. It makes a nice old car into a ratty old car and I don’t have to pay as much for it. Get to work, haul the kids, get groceries. Keep brakes, tires, all that safety stuff good. To me it is an appliance, not a fashion statement.
Full disclosure: DIY, not mechanic.

A story I wrote about torque wrenches. Long ago, different web site. Some may be amused.

http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/off-topic/whatever/140718-torque-wrenches.htmlAs each of my kids started driving, each started with a beater. I would help them rebuild parts rather than buying a reman so they would understand how the part worked. Anybody else here ever rewound a starter motor? 🙂 You won’t make flat rate…

I have always used new washers on them. Never had a problem.

Thank you for what you do. You are good at it. I particularly appreciate your integrity in not editing out the rough spots… stuff breaks, something doesn’t work, diagnostic process, all that. One of the problems my wife and I have had: “Why did it take you three weeks to build the back deck when it only took one show for the couple on TV to do it?” Well stuff like – Older kid falls off dirt bike, breaks wrist, rest of day in E.R. Younger kid decides to “Help Daddy” by cutting open all the concrete bags stacked in the driveway and hitting the concrete mix with the garden hose… all that.
Can you give us an idea of how many premium members/subscribers you have, or is that privileged information?
