First of all – What engine do you have in the VW ? Does the engine ‘sneezes’, looses power or runs weird before it finaly dies ?
Well, it’s not that difficult to pinpoint the problem. Just wait until the engine stops again and then check the fuel pressure and ignition.

Attachments:If the paint repair was done the right way there is no need to worry about rust (or at least it shouldn’t rust more that usual).
You should consider a car that has a galvanized body.Some that I can think of at the moment : Audi, Volvo or SAAB. They just don’t rust that much (Volvos don’r rust at all)
