You could well be right about the gaskets! I have to say, though, that the plugs look normal. She doesn’t appear to be running lean. But I’ll give it a go.
No, it’s a double barreled Solex. I’ve never really rebuilt it. I bought it brand new when I first acquired the car in 1983 and it’s only done about 5,000 miles in all that time! So I haven’t felt the need to do anything to the carb – rightly or wrongly. It runs fine after it’s started.
Mmmm. I wonder whether this is my issue. However, I don’t see how, even if the inlet valve were leaking, the bowl would overfill. Once the engine is stopped no more pumping takes place, so there should be nothing to purge, one would think.
