Sadly there hasn’t been and major brake service done.. We had thought about that first hoping that it was just an air bubble because the brakes were fine again for some time.

Do you happen to have the procedure for the ABS bleed or is just like any other regular brake bleed?
I pulled this procedure off one of the service information programs that i have. not sure if i should say the name but this procedure is kinda complicated in my opinion. I would say if you cant determine which is the culprit the cheapest route to go if you do it yourself would be to put a master cylinder on it. That HCU will cost a pretty penny.
1. Block off rear brake hoses, if the pedal no longer goes to the floor, suspect rear calipers, wheel cylinders, rotor or pad concerns.

2. If the pedal still goes to the floor, block off the front calipers, if the pedal no longer goes to the floor, suspect front calipers, rotor or pad concern.

3. If the pedal still goes to the floor, remove and block off the hydraulic control unit. If the pedal no longer goes to the floor, perform electronic ABS bleed procedure, if this does not resolve, suspect hydraulic control unit faults.(complicated have to find a way to block hose while it is disconnected from unit and will hold pressure)

4. If blocking off the hydraulic control unit does not resolve concern, block off the master cylinder, if the pedal still goes to the floor, perform bleed on the master cylinder, if the concern is still present, suspect the master cylinder.
Thanks for the troubleshooting steps. I have heard that the HCU is expensive and appears that it may be only available from Ford. I would think that I might have some luck in a junk yard but I’ll have to cross that bridge when I get there.

Thanks for the reply Eric. I did not adjust the idle as I knew that I was not going to be able to do it correctly. Followed your advice about not touching it and let a well known mechanic do it. The idle has gotten MUCH better since it was adjusted.

I’ll take a look at the link and see if there is anything else that I can try. The thing is that the rings on the car are weak, it burns oil (the back of the car proves that). Anywho I’ll give it a look.

Well, it looks like it is that time. The clutch is starting to give me some issues. Reverse has become the car’s worst enemy and it is hard to get into first or second most of the time. I wanted to get some opinions on clutch kits and the sort.

There is always the option of going back with OEM parts but, as it usually is I was looking for a way to get a little more pep out of the car. Would it be worth the money to purchase a “racing” or “Performance” clutch? If so, which brand, style, shape color, etc. should i be looking at?

Sorry for not having any knowledge on the subject. Then again that’s why I’m asking. 😉

I took the car to someone and they adjusted the idle which seems to have helped a great deal. I still see some of the same issues but they are not as bad now. There is still a stutter now and again but I am going to blame that on weak rings.

Mjust wanted to update. I’m still experiencing a rough idle and every now and again I feel a stutter. I am wondering if it is running rich. I can catch a hint of gas every now and again.

I have noticed some other things as well. When I press the brakes, my headlights will dim. Matter a fact when I change the voltage load (lights on or off, brake lights, heater fan) the RPM will change anywhere from 200 to 400 up or down and will normalize after a couple of seconds. Is that normal?

Took me a while to get home huh? 😛

Well some good news. I exchanged the altinator even though it tested good on the bench. I have not seen any indication that the battery light wants to come on. I am now noticing however that I have an idle issue (seems to be hunting). I have an IACV from a parts Honda that I purchased and am going to try switching it out and see what happens. Going to try cleaning in the intake as well.

I may have some good news about this issue. I usually see the battery light come on during my drive to work. It did not come on this morning. I’m still not ready to call it fixed yet though. The car has sat for a day and that seems to usually delay the light coming on. I am still seeing the same idling symptoms that I did when the battery light would come on.

• The RPMs drop drastically after ~2K. Like the car had been cut off.
• There is a noticeable change in idle when pressing the brake.
• When the headlights are cut on the car idles up to ~1K.

I will update after my drive home.
