Leaking as in leaking fluid/pressure in valve body? The tranny has no leaks on exterior, holds fluid level. I have felt slips before, my old 90 Grand Prix had a slip in tranny that would cause the revs to jump like neutral. This doesn’t feel like a slip, just feels like it is slightly engaging the gear then it locks in. Now I’m by no means an expert, and that’s why I’m on here to talk to experts. I have a basic understanding on how it all works and it just feels like a pressure issue of some sort. I have been spending night after night just trying to learn as much as I can about this tranny and its issues. Was wondering if anyone thought maybe it could be a problem with a seal on the 2nd gear shift servo? Just feels like maybe it was dry from sitting for years then when it was being used and functioning the seal got damaged causing issues? I have a YouTube and I want to try and post a video with it showing the issues. Both my brother “blazerguy1983” and myself have videos of it on our YouTube but it doesn’t really show the issue. His channel is “blazerguy1983” and mine is “90blackgrandprix”. Thanks for any more info if any someone can give me.
September 17, 2015 at 5:46 pm in reply to: 1983 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Regency not shifting #839237As blazerguy1983 brother the owner of the car wanted to post more information as update. After flush there was a slight improvement. At this point when you start the car cold, go through warm up, then drive the first few times of shifting to second is perfect. However once you get about a mile or two or the more stop and starts it acts up. Also noted that if you just slowly take off it shifts fine. However if you try to accelerate to merge or pull out onto a main highway it will hang onto the shift and pound into second. Also noticed that if the AC is running which raises the idle it seems to shift almost normal with only slight delay under extreme acceleration or load such as pulling out onto a hill and having to get up to speed quickly. Almost feels like a vacuum issue to me but I am not an expert.
This is the best picture I haveas of now. The only lights are in between the front and rear doors. I removed one of the and looked at wires. The box in trunk has warning for 110 volts, and the wires coming into match the wires that connect to the lights. It appears that they splice into the rear taillights.
Have a similar issue with my temp gauge in my 2002 Blazer, it will read 207 ish then will drop low, and then shake and climb up to over 210. I put a scan tool on it and read live data. It was holding a constant temp. These gauge clusters are known to have issues at least from what I see. Eric is spot on with his reply.
