So, The weather is just fantastic today! I grabbed my jack and stands, My new abs cable for the backend of my buick and thought “I will fix this today!”.

I got underneath it and noticed right off that the cable i purchased is the wrong one. Seems my diagram of the cable layout is wrong also. I dont know how I screwed that up. Seems the cabling runs like this:

The right rear and the left rear cable harness are somewhere spliced together with another cable coming from a box underneath the car /backseat area. They both seem to plug into about a 8 pin harness on the left rear that looks to also handle the wiring for the air shocks?

Its a weird layout. I do not have a manual for the car and cannot find a sticker on it anywhere for replacement.

2008 Buick Lucerne 3.8 engine. Air shocks in back from factory.

I really do not want to take it in to have the work done as I cannot really afford it. I would like to do it on my own but its quite difficult tracking down a ABS cable for it. I have the feeling that its going to be a splicing situation?

Thank you very much.

I am not a mechanic. I do my best to keep my car in shape because I use it for work. For the record, I guess I was not looking in all the right places for the part. I ordered it from RockAuto.com and it should be here in about 6 days.

Isnt there a Murphy’s law for cars that states “How hard a part is to replace is directly proportional to the price of the part” ? lol..

Thanks again for you help. It is much appreciated. I know thats whats wrong as I have tested all the sensors and they do come out fine. When I was stripping back the old cable to find fresh cable to solder I had to go back quite a bit and then decided to add a length of wire(s) to complete the job. I think I was still working with bad wire though when I did the repair. Besides, I would feel more comfortable with a new cable instead of a patched job.
I can copy post autozone receipt for mazdaspeed ac clutch bearing and for idler bearing.
But it’s irrelevant. Main thing is satisfaction from DIY accomplishments.
Be careful with water pump too. It starts as screeching noise on cold startups that goes away in about a minute.
Bad bearings sound like beetles in a mass. Kinda crunchy noise. Automotive bearing should have no play whatsoever due to amount of stress and life at stake.
Be well. Good job.
Im not doubting you on buying just the bearings. I did see Erics video where he was installing new bearings on the pully so I know you can purchase them.

Thank you for your help. Like I said before, Unless you have experienced bad bearings before its hard to tell sometimes when they are bad. Comparing them to new ones really does point out how they should be. I had just a little play in them but you could hear what seemed alot of grease was missing and the bearings moving around in the race. πŸ™‚

Hope your having a great weekend and thanks!

Well, I asked a few times at AZ and they told me they didnt sell just bearings. Must be a regional thing. I dont know. But I actually had to buy the whole arm and pully as the after market pully does not fit the old arm. So, It turned out to be 43 bucks for the tensioner. I m not complaining though. Saved money doing it myself. πŸ™‚

The only thing that held me up was not having the experience to know a bad bearing. Its kinda hard to call it bad if you dont have any experience with it. But I made out πŸ™‚

I m calling it fixed!

Thanks!

Great idea. Thank you.

I think I found the problem pully. I just went out and bought a idler pully for the car. I noticed a bit of play in the bearings and you can hear the bearings move (and kinda loose) when you spin it. Compared to a new one its a world of difference. Noticed that you cannot just buy the bearings and press them in though. Autozone sells the complete pully for 20 bucks.

Now I have to get it to quit raining (lol) started as soon as I was heading back home πŸ™

Thanks for all the advice.

Thank you. I guess I will inspect things a bit closer and see if I can find anything else. I was curious as I dont know if this little movement in the power steering shaft is normal or not. I will assume it is and see what else I can find.

Thank you

My first car was a 1970 Ford Fairlane 500. This came with a 351C (Cleveland) engine and I really worked hard on that car to keep it going. Unfortunately, My FF had a serious rust problem and the back leaf springs where broke all the way thru and just the U bolts holding them in place. When I accelerated I had to hold on to the steering wheel because the two front bolts that held the seat down where rusted thru (lol). I bought the car for 425.00 bucks from a farmer in my home town. I see old tv shows now and again that show one running down the road and it brings back fond memories of my old highschool days πŸ™‚

Wish I still had that engine!

My wife just asked me :

“When are you going to milk your car?”

I said “What??”

She said “Your car – When are you going to – you know, milk your car?”

I said “You mean bleed my breaks.”
The only thing I’ll add is to be sure it’s really the struts that are the issue. There are other things that can also cause noises in the front end. I cover them here.

Hello Eric,

Read you loud and clear. I m hoping that its not my struts or my steering column. The other costs I can handle and do.

HEY – BTW — > I was in Family Dollar and they had a plastic siphon that had basically a tennis ball size bulb in the middle and then on the two ends what looks to be tubing from a fish aquarium. Said it was resistant to gas. Got it for 2 bucks. πŸ™‚ Now I can change my brake fluid. I m kinda slow today getting to this stuff. Had service calls to run for my business. This weekend I will get on it and get it done.

Thanks for the info Eric
