Thanks for the tips and product recommendations. I bathed the short block with non aerosol WD-40 and bagged it to prevent rust while I wait on the machine shop.

Cool. thanks. The engine was rebuilt a short time ago and the bearings didn’t look worn at all. Time to verify the sender, gauge, and pull out a caliper and mic.
