So I typed in a 2001 Silverado C/K and found several hundred topics for transmission. Nothing about rebuilding refreshing restoring or anything like that. They pretty much have info on how to replace damn near everything.

If you can tell me what specific info you need, I can try to help you out.

One fact holds true for every automatic transmission in existence and I’m sure anybody here will agree with me: Be **DAMN** careful when you’re working with the valve body. If you get a check ball that falls out, you’re fucked 9 ways to the weekend. They’re extremely difficult to figure out.

I would highly recommend a visit to your local library. I recently discovered that my library subscribes to AllData, so I go there to get non-GM repair info. Your library’s reference desk will be able to help you find any auto repair information that they might have, and some can even show you the very basics of how the web site works.

You’re dealing with extremely complex shit here, my friend. Transmission work isn’t something that just anybody can dive into. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you can find yourself in a world of shit really fast!

I wish you the best of luck. You’re gonna need it.

I fucked up: The last 8 is only good for the parts guy lol. Service Information needs the whole VIN.

Anyways, I rebuilt one of these in school so I know very little. I could do it if it was in front of me. I still have the books for it somewhere.

Check the fluid throughout to see what kinda shape it’s in. Replace all gaskets and seals. Check clutch packs for scorch/burn marks. The friction discs are the redish brown ones and the friction material should be in good shape.

In each clutch pack, there are fluid ports that you can blast with shop air to check and make sure they apply ok.

I forget what your looking for with bands (AKA Clutch brakes)

                          Look for metal shavings throughout.

Anyways, I’ll have a look-see and find out if I can post the GM procedures
