Thanks for your reply and website. But if there is no check engine light there still could be codes waiting true or false?

I am just going to buy the replacment control arm with ball joint so I dont have to worry about pressing in the bushings. But thanks for the great info you posted, and for your reply.

                  Quoted From skim3544:

Why do you need to make one when there are tons of cheap separators available?

My $15 separator wedges between and opens the narrow side as I tighten the bolt. Works pretty well and I was able to separate the most of the ball joints without damaging the rubber boot (except BMW 740, the ball joint was so big that the tool did not fit. BMW sells their special tool for $160) You can also use 2 ton jaw puller if you have enough space.

I was looking to see if there is one to use while they were still on the truck. Was wondering ifanyone had ever made a homemade press out of other things. would be nice to know how to make one in a pinch.

Problem is they want to charge $500.00 to do the job thats way to much for my pocket book to handle. Looked at BAP and they have a decent price on ball joints OEM will work for me.Looking for a video to explain more info.

This video series applies to a F series Ford, your Chevrolet is similar.

My software shows the upper ball joint has rivets, grind them off and punch them out as directed in your manual, be sure to torque the bolts. I did not include a video because the Ford is different from your Chevy.

As I stated before, this procedure has some risk of injury if the spring is released. The video above has a shock going through the spring and keeps it from coming out, I am not sure of the exact set-up of your truck. Just be safe and secure it if necessary and get a buddy to help you.

Those are excellent videos my man thanks. Pretty much the same way it would be on a Chevy.I think I can do it now my buddy said its not to hard to do so next weekend its going to be done. Thanks for your help.

                        Welcome to the forums!

I would be looking at mechanical timing of the engine with that amount of miles.

Did you do a compression test to see what the numbers are?

You can also do a cylinder balance test as soon in this video by Eric to see if you can isolate a potential cylinder thats misfiring –

                        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAOmUjAjNjE&feature=plcp

Testing the TPS is very easy. You just need a DVOM and sweep test it. To test the MAP sensor, you will need a hand held vacuum pump and again a DVOM. Wiring diagrams will be needed so you can probe the correct wires. However, i dont believe those 2 sensors are your issue.

I have not done a compression test on it so I will check that and the timing. As far as the sensors I figure the would throw a check engine light if they were bad. Not trying to sound dumb but what is DVOM stand for? Is that a volt meter? Thanks for your help!!

                          Quoted From dreamer2355:

DVOM = Digital Volt Ohm Meter.

And there are no stupid questions.

I would do a power balance test first before doing a compression test.

It would also be worth while using a vacuum gauge and seeing what your readings are.

Can you suggest a video on how to check the vacuum on my truck, and the timing is something i”ve never done myself. Might have a shop do that. Still new to the fix it myself thing.
