      opps two years late.
Hope you found a solution to the cloudy clear long before I added my 2 cents here.

Prep is 80% of the finished product.
400 grit wet dry to start with. Than use 600 grit to feather into the exsisting paint. Look at your work from every angle you can, while sanding, so you get a good idea of when you’re through all the clear and are into the base color.
Depending on how much sanding you can handle, you might want to sand out the 400 and 600 grit scratches with 800 or 1000 grit. Up to you!

Matching new paint to exsisting paint can be one of the biggest pains a painter faces. Did you get matching chemistry color and clear and does that chemistry match or come close to the original chemistry used by the manufacturer? Also if you shot the clear on a humid day, wait for a dry day, that is if you’re going to attempt another clearcoat.

I’d suggest getting a scrap piece of metal and shooting it like you would shoot the car. That’s what the pros do when matching paint.
If you want a perfect looking shoot, you have to be willing to put in the time and elbow grease to get it right.

snow is over for a while and I’ve got the pulley off. Can see the balls inside the bearing as soon as the clutch came off.
the clip ends were initially too deep inside the groove and had a bear getting the bearing out with a pulley puller.
Oh yeah, if it’s your birthday, Happy Birthday to you!
I’ll try to get at the second clip in the morn or maybe not. I have the newer bearing in and the pulley back on so I may just snap the ring in and the spacer on and call it.
          what ya think?.

I found this video today AC Clutch Repair and Noise Diagnosis https://youtu.be/j7yflp1WFrU
The only differences I’ve noticed so far with mine are that intermittent chuggling from the pulley is way louder when it happens and
the noises are the same when a/c is on and off.
Makes me fairly sure the bearing is in worse shape than the one in the video was.
Finding this video is going to help me a lot since I’m going to have to get under the car in weather.
I rushed to get as much as I could done before the snow flies, but Oh well…

            thanks again Eric and DaFirnz

I found my camera battery charger and got a decent video of the noise. I can now see the culprit, or at least one of the culprits. The a/c compressor pulley barring. The pulley is wobbling when the intermittent noise shows up and it showed up nicely for me last night. On and off at idle for several minutes.

                Thanks DaFirnz
                This etcg video OtherEngineCompartmentNoises https://youtu.be/0UY35PUdv2c
seems to me to be close to what my sounds are like. Also in the civic I have to remove the power steering pump belt before I can get at the alternator and a/c compressor belt. I got a video today but only of the rattling noise. I also misplaced my camera battery charger and the battery ran out of juice. Sure enough when the chuggling noise started this evening I went to grab my camera than remembered the battery was dead.
Hope to get some more video and progress tomorrow

I didn’t get the reference to glass boat the first time I read your post.
I was thinking Florida Silver Springs mermaids and glass bottom boats.
Then I finally got it, what can I say, I haven’t been boating in a long time. πŸ™
When you said hiking straps I thought of trapeze and was wondering how they’d fit a trapeze on a snipe, but that took me less time figure out what you meant.
The smallest sailboat I know of that uses a trapeze is a cottontail. Glass, even back in the 60’s roundish lightweight hull and real fast. Trapeze and spinker. A tiny bit larger then the bluejay with an aluminum mast.
One of my childhood friends had a bluejay and he asked me to crew for him one year. There were three of us in the boat and we were all about 12 or 13. We placed fairly well in the races too, mostly due to my friends skippering abilities.
I also crewed for one race on a raven when I was still in my early teens. Ravens are a big boat around 22 foot with winches for the jibs and a block and tackle for the main. There were one or two bigger class boats around at that time, but not many of the race boats were bigger then the ravens. The skipper said I was too slow to be his jib man but he also mentioned my weight which was about 95 lbs at that time, which I think was more on his mind then my speed at cracking the jib winches. It had a trapeze too, but I never got a chance to use it, at 95 lbs I wouldn’t have been able to flatten the heal much using it anyway.
This thread about your snipe is sure bring back memories. πŸ™‚
I haven’t gone fishing in a long time either. My younger brother got my rod and reel as a hand me down, or something like that and I haven’t been fishing since. I still stop and chat with surf casters when I get to the ocean on my surfing vaction, but I spend most of my time in the water catching waves and getting tangled in their lines as I drift along the shore in the sweep currents.

Thanks very much both College Man and ETCG.
The 02 civic is the utility vehicle now. I want to clean it up and possibly sell it eventually.
But at 20 mpg like it was getting last sept before I started working on it, I’d have to list it as a mechanics special.
With your helpful suggestions and videos I think I’ll be able to get the injector back in and button up the top side so I can start on the underside part of the job….

The ERG plate in the 06 HCH was really simple in comparison. But it has other complicated issues … πŸ™‚

I got a used Mike D grid charger and an 08 pack from stryker in april.
I practiced on the used pack several times while learning how to use the grid charger effectively on the pack.
It turns out that the used pack is in a bit better condition then the original pack in the car.
But I wanted to learn how the rebalanced original pack would behave before I went blindly ahead swapping the packs.
After I rebalanced the pack in the car I begrudgingly reset the codes without coping all the saved ODB2 data.
It looks to me from the behavior of my gauges that at my last dealer service I got a BCM update.
But there is nothing in the service records to confirm that.
Other than that the car is working well and is only recently showing signs that I may need to run another rebalancing cycle to improve the batteries health and longevity.

It’s still a work in progress but the wife is still very happy with the car and I’m very happy to have been able to keep it that way. πŸ™‚
