My first thought was that the compressor imploded, but that wouldn’t explain the no heat situation. Perhaps something inside the dash/evap area broke (blend door actuator, idk). Seems that if *no air* is coming out AND its both heat/cold being impacted then it’s in the evaporator/vent system part.

I was able to get the door opened (which allowed the lift gate to open also). Had to basically tear up the lock actuator, eventually jamming a flathead screwdriver into the part where the locking “wire” went. Somehow it freed it up and the lock button suddenly worked. I then put on the new actuator.

I would think something like burning oil is causing the cat problem…..is your oil low when its replaced for an oil change? Otherwise I cant think if anything….mpg seem okay or poor?

Might just be needing a general answer if anyone knows how to open a car door that cannot be unlocked. Is breaking the mechanism the only option?

Do you have a code, and if so what is it? Also, is the replacement part aftermarket or OEM?

Thanks. The more I think about it the less sense it makes.

I think it’s the cat(s). Any thoughts on aftermarket? Normally, I’d go for the best/oem but it’s very expensive, and I don’t use this vehicle much. I considered getting a cheap aftermarket set and then attempting to clean the existing ones. I figure if I can unclog them via cleaning, I’ll save ’em for when the cheap ones give me any issues.

Might need that special socket for one of the o2 sensors (slot for the wire), wouldn’t hurt to have that ahead of time

The first part made me think o2 sensor, purely based on reading about symptoms of a bad o2 sensor if it’s running rich. Of course, I’m basically a novice so keep that in mind. Also don’t know much about BMW, but on a Honda when I replaced the upstream o2 sensor (no code) it seemed to improve the fuel economy (which had been pretty poor for a while). Hopefully it’s the vac elbow / fuel filter issue only.

Meant to mention also – I do not have a CEL, which made me question if it’s one of the cats. I assumed a blocked cat would throw a code…..correct me on that if I’m wrong
