When I changed the pump I tried really really hard not to mess anything up. I’m pretty sure I didn’t mess up any o rings or anything. And I rented a pulley puller at used it to take off and put the pulley back on. I’m gonna try raising and turning the wheels. This may be a stupid question but does the engine need to be on for that? If that doesn’t work I’ll triple check my work. Also if the cap will bleed air out on its own is it even necessary?. Lastly, any ideas on where to get a vacuum tool to bleed it? Or will I need to buy one offline. Thanks for your help guys this noise is really annoying. Lol and the car isint even old -.- yall should see the looks I get haha.

I would like to have a fuel pressure tester but they’re the same price as the pump. New they’re around $50 online and a new pump would fix my gauge, which is worth it to me. I’ve only had the car for a couple months and I changed the spark plugs when I bought it. I’m not sure if it misfired before I changed the plugs. It hasn’t misfired badly up until recently… Which is why plug wires make the most sense to me. I think they are the factory wires. Somehow they’re alive after 18 years and 135,000 miles. I checked the MIL code and it was just cylinder 2 misfiring. Maybe ill take the wires off my other Neon and see if it remedies the problem. I just haven’t thought about the wires being bad. Also when I changed the plugs, there was oil on one of the spark plugs but it was the plug for cylinder 3 only. I need to get a valve cover gasket set too I guess. But thats just the cost of owning an older car.

I don’t remember what plugs I used but I do remember them being pre gapped. I don’t think they were NGK though. I think I’ll just go ahead and buy a new pump to fix the gauge and new plugs and wires. I might still test the fuel pressure anyway though. My car stutteres really bad when I shift into reverse but it goes away after three or four skips or if I shift into drive.

I’m not exactly sure what a rocker cover gasket is. It sounds something I should look into but the only thing that concerns me is the fact that the plug in question was covered in oil from the threads down. Basically when you pull the plug wire off the plug there is no oil but when you pull the plug there is oil. But I don’t think I’m burning oil because there is no blue smoke or oil smell coming from the exhaust.

Thanks so much for your help guys. I might tackle driving the car to the closest autozone which is 10 miles away tomorrow. The only thing that worries me is if the transmission goes into limp mode again and the car stalls and will not start back up, I’d be screwed because I don’t have the money to pay for another tow right now. But I do think I’ll get the alt tested. Hopefully fixing it is as simple as changing it. I will keep y’all posted.

I just replaced the battery a couple months ago. Do alternators have voltage regulators? And would low voltage actually cause the tranny to screw up? The reason I say is because I kinda thought I smelled something burning but I think it might have just been in my head. After the car sat for a while it started up and shifted fine but I never reset the codes.

Today I gave the car a “redneck fix”. All I had to do was take out the bulb for the marker light and jiggle the front and back turn signal wires and now the turn signals work wonderfully.
