I’ll go back with conventional oil, but yes I resealed the entire engine from top to bottom.
It’s a non EGR car. By new I mean, it’s a reman head, new valves, guides, and seals. I requested when it was built to have new not cleaned up valves installed along with seals and guides. I’ll try the thinner oil but it goes against everything I’ve been told, high miles= thicker oil. I’m willing to try anything though.
I will try the lower octane gas. I run 10w40 high mileage synthetic in the car, it has 284000 miles on it. It does not use oil , has no blow-by, and still gets about 40 miles per gallon. I did notice last night, when I was on the interstate about 70, probably 1/4 throttle when the valves started clattering it was smoking. When I floored it like I always do, the valve clatter stopped and the smoke stopped. Like I said this is a new head, I’ve put maybe 600 or 700 hundred miles on it.
new o2 sensor, runs the same with and without exhaust. non egr.
Here is the latest update, I replaced the ECM, bought a remaned head, new head gasket. No change. I did learn it is affected by cold and heat, it runs far better in the warm afternoon. In the mornings it won’t get out of it’s own way. I have no idea, EVERYTHING has been replaced multiple times, even the engine wiring harness.
I checked voltage on everything before and after I replaced it, I also checked voltage going to the ECM. I even checked the charging system for correct output. That’s really the problem everything checks out, the SINGLE part left on the car that hasn’t been replaced is the ECM, all sensors, checked and double checked the head/head gasket, fuel pump, regulator, and injectors. Timing, valve springs, valve lash, and distributor. I’m more frustrated than I’ve ever been in my life. Nothing seems to work, nothing changes anything. I had Honda run diagnostic on it they found no faults at all. All they say is they don’t know what it could be.
Well the switch recall did not fix anything. On to the ECM I guess.
The crank sensor test okay. I have the luxury of getting my parts either free or at dealer cost so I spent the 20. bucks and put a new crank sensor in anyway with no change in the car. The ONLY two things left are the ECU and the ignition switch recall. The only ECM I’ve found has 3 numbers different but I’ve been told it doesn’t matter as long as the year and options are the same. I’ve scheduled the recall to be done.
Thank you very much for all your help, I’m taking it to have the recall done and will test the crank sensor this evening.
I did just find out the car never had the ignition recall done. Should the crank sensor not give a code?
I replaced ALL the relays. The car never cuts off it just kinda skips and the engine bogs at mid to full throttle. The ECM is the single thing I haven’t replaced, and to be honest that’s only because I haven’t found one. I’ve plugged scan tools into the car and driven it while someone (ASE tech) was watching the device and nothing looked out of place.
No, the only codes it’s ever given is p1399 p1300 p1301 p1302. Cylinder misfire, nothing else. Last night I put an intake gasket on ( I watched the video about the white 98). It changed nothing. When the problem started I put a distributor in it thinking the coil was breaking down, then as it progressed I got discouraged and started throwing parts at it.
