When was the last time you’ve replaced the cap and rotor? How did you check your timing? Could also be a bad map sensor. If that goes bad the engine will run ubber rich or hard starting and back fires. If you can find a donor swap that out and see if it works.

Possibility the cylinders may be flooded with fuel since you’ve been trying to start the car. Take a spark plug out and look down the cylinder with a flashlight and see if there is any sign of excessive gas. If there is too much gas in the cylinders the car will not start and may cause backfires. I’ve had this happen on an MR2 when it sat a bit too long and didn’t start. There was an excessive amount of fuel in the cylinders since we’ve been cranking many times. Used an air compressor to blow out the fuel and it worked! But there may be other issues that you may be having. Get your ignition coil and igntiion module checked at autozone for free. Has to be something ignition related since your backfiring. Good Luck!

I will have to try and hunt down some good used oem coils as they are quite pricey new. What about the Import direct coils which says ” actual oe part ” from Oreilly. I have purchased a set before for a Mazda and they seem to be working fine as the oe has failed. Maybe Nissan is just picky.

Coils are aftermarket from Oreilly. Just talked to my buddy and so far 5 new coils have been replaced within the past 4-5 months. As of now the SUV is missfiring again. I will scan and check to see what code comes up.
