Thanks, I bought a 600 foot lbs impact and it came right off which I didn’t expect. I got everything changed up (go me) and the car seems to run fine, but I may have put the timing belt on a little tight, as it makes some noise still. Another thing I didn’t have a whole lot of time to mess with was that the 3 belts for the ps, ac, and alt all were kind of different tensions, could this assist in the noise making? I’ll play with it a little this afternoon when I get a moment and some dry weather!
Is there a way to get the crank bolt off without using a tool that holds the balancer in place? I tried everywhere and nobody had one, just pullers and installers.
attached is what I was looking for..
Attachments:
its probably all worn out so you might have issues tightening it or might have skipped a tooth, if your are doing it this weekend then you should be ok.
If the belt did skip a tooth what symptoms would you see? Would it run funny, sound different, or anything like that? Just curious
I believe it is, so this weekend it’s getting changed for sure. Quick question, is tightening the belt as easy as it looks in the video? I played with it for a few minutes before it got dark and it didn’t seem like I could get it any better than it was.
Thanks alot! I assumed it was too loose but don’t know a whole lot about them…looks like I came to the right place for some good honest answers! This weekend I’ll tighten it up a bit and very soon it’s time to replace it anyways, because I’m not so sure it was replaced yet, with 103 on the odometer.
Thanks again.
Here’s the looseness…
Thanks for the replies guys! I had a feeling it was with the tension too so I took a video of me pushing on it, which I’ll upload when I get home. Also, it doesn’t make that noise really at all when it’s cool, but after it warms up it makes it constantly…could this be because the timing belt gets softer when it’s warm, like a garden hose left in the sun?
