Thanks all and especially Eric. I’m glad I could finally explain myself well enough that we all agree that my tranny is a POS. Headlight…already changed both. got the CORRECT bulbs on amazon for $90 I think…far cheaper than anyone else wanted. The bun warmers dont work but I live in Texas so I can deal. My wife put 4 cd’s in the stereo and now they wont come out. Amyome have any ideas on that…Right now the only problem with the trans is when it is cold…stalls going into 1st sometimes. I love the car though. Only paid $8k for it with 90k on it and it was in exccellent condition. It is a blast to drive.
I will keep you posted if I decide to do the swap. Thanks for all the help…and seriously, if anyone has any idea how to get those cd’s out let me know.

The whole reason I’m considering the swap is the the ’03 tl transmission is famous for turning itself into a paperweight every 30-60,000 miles. There are many people that are on their 3rd and fourth transmission. The ’06 or ’07 accord transmission on the other hand, has resolved those design flaws that the ’99-’03 acura tl had. Swap a notoriously bad transmission with one that has fixed the problem.
Maybe you know something about the ’06 or ’07 accord that I do not, but I know the tl transmission is the only thing terribly wrong with that car. It is great when it works, just does’nt work for long. The accord Transmission, according the the acura forums is supposedly a very reliable tranmission…the ’06-’07 that is.

Thanks for the input guys. I am not trying to be obstinate, but its all over the internet that people are making this swap…for the last few years. I have only seen a couple of threads that people posted stating their results. I think once most people fix the problem they go their own way and dont worry about it anymore or something. The threads I have seen and will have to find again stated that the swap was basically plug and play, and the accord tranny was even better in 4th because it has a different ratio than the oem tl tranny. the tl trans 4th gear is almost an overdrive gear and does not pull as well as the accord.

You are partially correct. An ’04 tl tranny will not bolt up to an ’03 tl, but an ’05-’07 accord or oddysey 6-speed will.

I am still trying to find a specific link that included a few acura and honda guys talking about this swap, but I have found this for now…http://tl.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=851976. There are similar links all over acurazine.com dicussing this swap. I’m just suprised no anybody here has heard of it. If you are an acura tech, I am not suprised you suggest an acura tranny only, but the accord/oddysy tranny ’06 or ’07 has fixed the design flaw and it bolts on to the 03′ tl-s. There are people doing it all the time.

Im not bragging, but Ive spent a lot of time researching this. If I am incorrect than the info I recieved from acura and honda mechanics is wrong. The swap would require ( according to my info) a new ecu and the trans speed cable would have to be connected in a different spot than the acura trans. Used low miles accord tranny can be had for $600-$1000, $500 install. Honda supposedly fixed the tranny issues with this
generation. I guess none of you have experience or have heard of this swap. I appreciate all the input.Im not bragging, but Ive spent a lot of time researching this.
