My Grandpa would have this problem in is 98 S10. He bought a brand new battery one time and the next day it was completely dead. He hooked it to a charger and charged it up he noticed the Dome Lights on and simple just shut them all off. Never had a problem again.

Try turning off all your dome lights so they dont turn on with the doors open. Every roof dome light that i know of has a 3 position switch, OFF|Door|ON. also if your Truck has a Glove Box, Hood or Ashtray lights, make sure they are not staying on.

You would think some Stop Leak in the tranny would do the same thing. Motor honey to quiet the engine down huh? I would be nice to have my car be as quiet as the day it was new 🙂

“Motor Honey”? What would sawdust in the diff do? I once was looking for oil for my car and coundn’t find the 5w40 i needed when i saw i grabbed it… wasn’t ’til i got home i realized it was DIESEL oil. I returned it and exchanged it (un open and unused of course) but did wonder to myself…. What would DIESEL oil of done to a unleaded engine?…
Have you looked into a “hoarders” permit, I believe they allow you to keep as many as three junk cars and up to seven old appliances in your front lawn, there are restrictions such as the appliances cannot be used as pet cages or play pens for children and the cars cannot be up on blocks taller than 18″ leaking fluids must be contained in Tupperware or an orange “homer” bucket from Home Depot and cannot be labeled as “cooking oil” also, the vehicles must be spaced far apart enough to allow a lawn mower to pass between them. In my experience it is a good idea to secure the vehicles and appliances with some sort of chain or security device as midnight scrap collectors have been known to make off with any metal lying around, you might just try welding all of the stuff together and call it art, heck you might even be able to get a grant from your local government to make more.

Perhaps I miss the point on this post? Don’t seem to me that this post has anything to do with this thread. and AFAIK the law in my state says that any car parked on a property has to be registered and have current tabs and plates regardless if it’s a rotting pile of shit on someone’s back yard. (have plenty neighbours in my area like that. Seems to me its pointless to even KEEP a rotting car on your property for 8 years or more never to see the road again let alone paying for the registration every single year.
A lot of Gm cars had problems with the the ABS wires actually shorting to ground, you may want to check into that as sometimes you can find shorts in the wiring harness which will trip an ABS light. Depending on the year of the impala you may not have to replace the entire hub assembly as well.
I DID indeed have it scanned by a mechanic. He said that the ABS code was for the Driver side Front wheel. He Inspected it and stated that the wire that is suppose to come out of the sensor has simply broke free AT the sensor so he couldn’t just solder the wires back on. He said there was 2 options. a Entire hub which includes the Wheel bearing and ABS Sensor OR just a replacement sensor assembly that goes over the hub. I believe it goes behind the Brake Disc I didn’t ask. The first option was going to be over $400 the second was going to be $275.

Its a Impala but i have decided not to sell it. I will just wait 7 years for the plates to expire than buy and throw on some COLLECTOR plates haha no more registration fees!

Ha ha ha walt. Its a pain in the ass to even upgrade that stereo in the thing i wouldnt even WANT to know how difficult the steering wheel would be to upgrade LOL.

it DOES have dash lights on however, The ABS went out on it so is got lights on related to that.

point is it drives perfect who wants to pay $400 for a entire ABS Hub assembly? ABS is not even a urgent or really important thing (As i’ve consulted several mechanics) and they all say that there is plenty of people that drive cars with ABS not working they just say you just get reverted down to standard brakes as not many want to spend that kinda money to fix it as it doesn’t really make the car less safe….

boy i do miss the traction control.

P.S. Walt, The car has Steering Wheel controls which I Uses all the time a aftermarket wheel would be a step down! 😆

EDIT: It just occured to me, Walt, Why did you ask me if the airbags were disconnected and a aftermartket steering wheel was installed? What did you mean by that? How was that even related?

Rust is a big issue along all the Northern US States too. Perhaps you could pay a visit to Davidsfarm in Lucan, Ontario? Last i Knew his Aries Wagon was in real good shape and being its over 20 years old it dont need emissions and its a stick too. If i remember right he was willing to sell it for like $800
