I know of two shops in my area that not only accept bringing your own parts they encourage it. They are not just repair shops they are also a body shop and fabrication shop. Because it appears the repair is one of their services rather than their primary thing the Labor costs are relitivly extremely low.
I put a FRAM on my Impala because it felt and looked more “heavy duty” that and cuz ACE Hardware only had 1 and i needed 3 filters. I just use Generic oil. the last oil change was all “ACE” branded oil. I have to put 10w40 in the impala (Cap and manual calls for 10w30) because if i put in 10w30 it burns the oil and i have to add a quart ever few months.
I always had the mindset that “If it fits it works” or “Gas is gas” or “oil is oil”

I don’t trust a shop to do oil changes on my Impala. I saw a video on YouTube that a shop changed the oil on a Impala not unlike my own and once they started it the engine blew up! No lie!
Plus back in 2012 I changed the oil in 3 cars. With the 12 qts of oil (4qts per car) and 3 oil filters the price came out to be around $30. The SAME price a shop charges to change oil in ONE car. It is much cheaper to do it yourself most of the time all you need is either a socket or a cresent wrench to remover the drain plug. All you need to do it hand tighten so you shouldnt need to use a socket or oil filter wrench to do it in the future. I hand tightened the oil filters on the cars with no leaks and hand tightened the drain plugs with a SLIGHT tighten with the cresent wrench to snug it and never had any leaks and i never changed or even touched the crush washer on the drain plugs either.

I’m not gonna lie. I am guilty of this, however I have never been in a reck or endangered anyone in the process. I have never texted and drove however I HAVE read text messages as I have driven. I also put the phone to my ear to talk when i get a call with aa passenger in the car.
I was almost in 2 T-Bone accidents at the SAME intersection 2 weeks apart due to 2 seperate drivers running a All-Way stop instersection. Bothe times the cars were going North however My direction or travel was East the 1st time West the second.
While my sample size is small (2 vehicles) My 98 chevy (power everything) has all sorts of little things broken in addition to major mechanical issues in the engine. While my 89 ford (power nothing)… well, pretty much everything works! Sure, manual windows and locks are annoying until you get used to them, but the likelyhood of it breaking is much lower. And when it does, replacement parts are cheaper.
I understand what you mean. I have simular cars to you as in both are 2001 bout NOTHING alike. My Lanos has power nothing (if you don’t count Power Brakes or Power Steering as power somthing) It has survived all this time with little to no maintenance at all. As this is a Family Car, Single owner and simply “handed” down to me, The Registered owner of the car (not me) not only pays any repair bills on it but also has record of every single repair ever made which isn’t much. The Impala however has power everything and a shopping list full of minor but annying problems (and some mild mechanical problem which are annoying as hell such as the stalling out when starting it warm). I have no repair records of the Impala at all.Funny as it may seem to spite the fact of people say that Daewoo’s are horid cars Mine’s Rock Soild. It is the most reliable car my family has ever owned. When it needs repairs (which is seldom) They are generally cheap to fix in most cases. They are rare cars (not counting the Daewoo’s Badged as Acura, Saturn, Buick, Chevrolet or Suzuki) I plan to keep mine forever. After 14 years it got virtually no rust, It is in excilent physical and mechanical shape (mechanic said so when replairing the brake lines) Not to mention the car has gone UP in value of the past four years.

I have no idea how many of you are TV-halics, But I am. I am currently set on a TV Show Called Mike & Molly. Staring Melissa McCarthy. Mike’s Character in the show has a 1988 Galant. The Car is said in the show to have a hole in the passenger side floorpan, The clock doesn’t work and has many problems the engine broke and instead of a new car he got a new engine. I hope to always keep my car running regardless of its condition 🙂

Commodore665 My Lanos has no Transmission dipstick either. And from what the manual says Automatic transmissions never need servicing. It specifically states in my owners manual that you do not ever service the Automatic transmission however you do service the Manual every 60k miles i think
