That’s what I was thinking..never did a job like this before. Is it possible to service these two items while the motor and tranny are still in the truck? Maybe by loosening some mounts?
The cable looks like it does in the first picture, completely straight. When opened, looks loose like it does in the 2nd pic. Throttle opens all the way forsure
The picture with the most slack is actually with the throttle is open
Would investing in something like the kriket be beneficial? http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/GAT0/91107.oap?ck=Search_91107_-1_3539&keyword=91107
The only problem is…I have no idea what the proper tension should be considering that the manual i have doesn’t even specify that in the specifications

I know the oil pump is run off the main timing belt, not the balance belt. Yes, I’m replacing both belts and all of the pulley’s. So if I understand correctly, when I paint the marks on the old belt and by standing one on top of the other and transferring it I’m basically getting another way of judging how tight to pull the tension on the pulley’s?

I have an 03 galant, i have a repair manual with it and i have seen the balance belt on the engine. Thank you barney, is there something i can use inplace of the special tool? Does the tensioner on the BB need any special tigtening?

There is a balance belt, that wasn’t real relevant to the question… so all I do is just pull the tensioner as far as it goes and tighten it up is what you’re saying? I apologize for all the questions, with an interface engine I’m not risking anything.
