I had a TRD catback on my 3.4L V6, sounds nasty but it was also supercharged. Don’t know what it would do with the 4 banger. Maybe a flowmaster or magnaflow muffler. Please don’t put a fart cannon on it.

I got this one with the torque App. Was a bit pricey but I didn’t see great reviews of cheaper ones. Some complained of lagging with cheap ones but I didn’t get any with this one even on older cars.

sounds like you are getting horrible MPG’s anyway. I get 150 miles to a half tank. in my 97 impreza outback 2.2L. Sounds like you may have an undiscovered issue but I will say that when winter comes around I do notice about a 2-4 MPG drop. I know they have summer and winter blend fuels for emissions reasons and it seems like the winter blend is worse for gas mileage. Every car I’ve ever had does worse in winter.

Extreme temps can be caused by improper air/fuel ratio, timing problems, restricted exhaust systems, malfunctioning O2 sensor, high boost levels or other engine control system problems.

Sounds like you’ve ruled out ECU issues and timing. I don’t think you mentioned any CELs. My Old 2004 Tacoma with a 3.4L supercharged V6 did this and it turned out to be a plugged up catalytic converter. My A/F ratio ran lean and it melted the cat internals and plugged it up, new cat no problem. Try pulling your O2 sensor out and see if that changes anything. Hope this helps.

I had this issue in my old 95 eclipse. Turns out a mouse got in there and when I turned the blower on it was loud and vibrated badly. The vertical blades of the fan drum sliced the mouse up pretty good as well. Take my advice, check it before it stinks.
