I’m gonna have to say Tires as well. Over the years I’ve really learned that you get what you pay for with tires.. Wet traction especially!! But think too a dedicated season set of tires is the best way to go. “All Season” = No season… If you have a car, a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires are invaluable! You may sacrifice some handling because the sidewall is softer, but the traction is phenomenal. I had a set of aggressive snows for the winter on my R32 and holy crap was it worth it!

^ The scarry thing is, I helped him rip that engine out of a totaled 89 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, he put it in his mustang (against my advice to rebuild it first) and whaddya know…… He dragged his feet from 2000/01 to about 2010/2011 when I lit a fire under him to get it out of there when he found a crate engine.. so we pulled it back out after 10 years of sitting in the same garage because he never worked on it. He still hasn’t gotten it going so I lost my motivation to keep him motivated… And he’s unemployed now …. again… So there’s a built Stinger 2.3t for sale that’s loaded with mods for sale. I’m tempted to pick up an Extended cab 2.3 n/a Ranger and buy his crate engine and make a fun little sleeper.. 😀 All it really needs to run is the intercooler, bov, injectors and your choice of PCM setup. MegaSquirt, OEM, or whatever else you can make work.

I don’t think some people really realise how much an engine rusts together just from sitting.. I cringe when I see stuff on YT or TV where people find these barn finds or whatever and “We just found this excellent condition 1979 Trans Am in a barn and we’re going to see if it’ll crank/start!”

For one; the gas goes bad even after a couple months… And the engine is a different story. My buddy was dragging his feet with this 89 Mustang 2.3T SVT swap project and the old engine was sitting in the car for over 10 years when I finally got him to take it out and find an appropriate crate engine… So we yanked the old 2.3T and tore into it. The oil was really bad, but worse yet was the internals which were almost rusted solid!! And this was sitting in a garage of a house for 10 years… We had to use the business end of a hammer to get the pistons out! They were rusted to the cyl walls. Not to mention that the head took some convincing to get off.

Did I get a video of the oil?? why yes I did…. *Language warning*

But! I few weeks ago, after a year and a half of savings, research, and working, I traded that POS in for my lovely 2004 GT :silly: . 1999-2004 is my favorite body style for mustangs so to get the last year, 40th anniversary, all the bells and whistles, and a well maintained car is just amazing to me. Yeah it’s not a brand new 2014 and it has 97,000 miles but to me this is my brand new car, the one I stare at when I walk away and park near security cameras when I go out somewhere haha.

Thanks for the videos Eric! :cheer:

Buddy at my last job actually inherited a Mach1.. 0_o !! 4 valve.. yeah… Nice car! I do have a soft spot for the FoxBodies for some reason..

Any I’m driving a 2008 R32 now… I really miss a Reliable POS. I’m looking to get out of the R32 before I go completely nuts from all the little dings and my madness from TRYING to keep it mint… I’m looking into a Jeep.. lol That’d be my POS. I had a 95 F150 that i drove across the country twice.. What a reliable truch that was and it was such a liberating feeling to not have to care abotu the paint or the wheels.. or the carpet.. It was a basecoat, no CC… Cloth interior… 114k and I think I put maybe 50k on it. Only thing it ever needed was a pickup coil and a fuel pump.. that was it. Such a great truck and he always seemed like it was happy to take me where I wanted to go. 🙁 I miss it..

But anyway.. here’s the Limited edition #1511/5000, AWD, 3.2L VR6, DSG Trans, brakes that will pull your face off, Pilot Super Sport tires, Deep Blue Pearl R32 I’m daily driving now.. There’s more leather inside this car than plastic.. Heated Seats, Navi.. you name it… and I’m going crazy trying to keep it clean. I’ve never had anything that handled this good tho. It’s so ridiculous. And these PSS tires are just stupid in the dry and rain. I can’t get them to brake loose.

(We can’t quote here? I’ll check again)

And I do agree that the 3800 and 4.3 are awesome V6’s.. I worked at a GM dealer in 2000 for a short time and then went got hired to work on cranes.. But I didn’t mean to blatantly blast GM, as my anger mostly comes from their build quality. I’ve seen how much farther my money can go with other brands that are perceived to be cheaper… But their Build quality pisses me off now. it’s a lot to do with material choices, but this is also starting to go into a domestic vs Import territory that Eric already did a couple videos on and he sums it up pretty well in the first of those.

I’ve also see a lot at the dealer that wasn’t recalled. Anyone remember the coolant systems on the 1995 through 1997 GM’s turning into jello? Granted it was caused by leaks in the coolant systems, but when the entire system turns to gel because there’s a leak? It took them a while to adjust that formula to not turn into mush. That’s what gave Dex Cool a bad name.. We also did a lot of Campaigns though. Dirty EGR valves, leaking oil cooler lines, Coolant flushes, cradle bolt replacements. etc etc.. probably stuff that should have been recalls..

^ I JUST threw that out in a response to another GM Recall question the other day too, regarding their Bankruptcy.. Apparently GM is blaming their ignition recall on that and I will again respond with “It’s not the Bankruptcy’s fault your product sucks.”

I mean seriously.. I used to be a huge GM fan for most of my life. Now? I’m more of a Ford fan because I like what they’re doing. Their products get me EXCITED and they inspire me to WANT them! I WANT a newer SXT F150 with a 5.0. I WANT to show it off, take a long road trip and enjoy it! it’s an emional experience for us. I feel they have a better product and the mainstream media has been really quiet regarding Ford. If someone drags up the Explorer Recall and expects it to be a valid argument I’d ask them to look at the facts again. THAT recall was mostly regarding Firestone tires. Since then, tire manufacturers have been required to stamp a production date on their tires and the 6 year law was put in effect. If a tire is dated older that 6 years (6 right?) there’s a $500 penalty to sell it and needs to be thrown out. The tires in that recall were subject to ply separation because they were sitting for too long before they were sold and installed.

If you want to blame Powerstroke? Ok.. those were a rotten set of engines with pros and cons but definitely had some expensive growing pains. But the German derived 6.0 and 6.4 PS’s are gone. It wasn’t a direct Ford problem and their new ones are really stout. The emissions stuff has really put a hurting on the diesel end of things as we’ve all had to figure out how to make this work.

Anyway.. Dodge build quality is supposed to be top of the line now, but it comes at a premium and they are the most expensive domestic brand.

I worked with a guy recently who used to say “I won’t buy any imported jap crap.” But he was also an old school guy and to that I would respond “What brand of cell phone do you have?” (His Android Smartphone)

I’ve been driving VW’s since 2010 now and I don’t intend to get another GM unless it’s a 1995-2002 F-Body or a C5 Corvette that will sit in the Garage. I don’t mean to make this my personal GM rant… But they dug their own hole with this one. I still like them for a Muscle car, but I can’t afford their new stuff.. and the 5th gen camaro has one of the best resale values… no clue how that happened.. maybe the demand is just still pretty high. I’m in the market for a daily driver now and I had a 1998-2004 Blazer under consideration but I threw it off the list when I figured that I don’t like their 4L60E transmission tuning and I don’t like their torsion bar front end.. The 4.3 engine is pretty solid though.. I’m looking for a 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee now.

I’ve lost a lot of faith in GM the past couple years. Ever since I had a 2004 Colorado that left a really bad taste in my mouth. It wasn’t unreliable, but the build quality was just so putrid… I couldn’t believe what happened to the company I used to be so proud of, the company that I used to work for, the company that I eagerly awaited the next new model and then would lust over them for years… But now? not so much.. I’ve moved on but I still have faith in their powertrain as far as the fact that they do make some very good power. (Had a 2000 Camaro z28 heads and cam car with 440/421 rearwheel)

I think some of GM’s past mistakes are going to come back to bite them for a while.. I think 2005-2012 were the very worst years of GM. Their quality took a drastic tumble and they’re going to be playing cleanup for a long time.

But anyway.. I found this yesterday and sent it around to a couple people..

This is the basics stuff that I’ve been looking for.. Thanks a ton.. I’ve got a bunch of pieces and I’m starting to put them together. I also looked up AC induction motor stuff last night and starred at a picture of the three phase wiring schematic until I understood it. :woohoo: Blue black and green is what this guy used.. Home made setup with 48 volts and about 500ma.

I told my work leader at work today that I’m going to take aapart the generator in the corner of the shop. It’s a 1993 model (I think.. or 1998).. was on one of the pickups on one of the leads. Was a single phase 240 200kw generator. I started tearing into it and my electrician buddy told me to run it before I get to far into it so we can see what the problem was and why we pulled it out. Come to find out, they thought there was something up with the frequency (How is that even possibly for it to make 245v and not have a frequency??)… It was making 243 at the breaker coming out of the head, but the Frequency gauge was dead. I got 61.4 at the back of the gauge. Oh well.. The breaker was questionable too.

I had it “bench running.” Running off a gallon of fuel in a jug, and a somewhat dead battery out of a backhoe I serviced a couple weeks ago.

(I also have many camaro videos on that channel too… 😀 )
