Yes, I confirmed that about the anti-seize by calling NGK. Another thing, I was expecting to have a difficult extraction process in general, but i found the plugs to be, if anything, undertorqued. Came loose way too easily.
Not set in stone but a good general guideline:
Driving conditions are considered severe:
• For repeated short distances.
• In dusty or sandy areas, in areas where salt or other corrosive materials are used.
• On rough or muddy roads.
• In mountainous areas.
• For extended periods of idling or low speed operation.
• For prolonged periods in cold or extremely humid climates.
• More than 50% of driving in heavy city traffic in temperatures above 90°F.
• If using brakes extensively.Driving conditions are considered normal:
• If your car did not fall into the previous severe category.
Let’s see:
Not exactly sure what short distances mean. 40 miles R/T to town… once a week, Or a 20 mile trip to a shopping area, once or twice a week. Occasionally a 10 mile trip to see a family member.
An island in mid-Pacific has salt in the air. It ruins computers sometimes.
And never use brakes. Really.March 2, 2018 at 3:25 am in reply to: 2005 hyundai elantra–all of a sudden, no interior lights #886619Great, thanks for all your assistance.. I’ll be going into town on Saturday and check out what’s what.

edit: ah, maybe more rounded at the top, the bulb itself

March 1, 2018 at 2:42 am in reply to: 2005 hyundai elantra–all of a sudden, no interior lights #886565Ok, got some new bulbs for the dome light. what I did was dismount the whole unit and work with the switch mechanism, which since I had bought the car felt a little stiff. I was able to sand down the wear marks on all the contact points, and finish up by spraying with some electronic cleaner. The switch felt like new, reattached, checked to see 12v was arriving, put in new bulb and good to go.
The map lights work as well, by their switches, but I’d really like to replace them with LEDs, but first I really don’t know what they are, and I still haven’t got the hang of removing them. Going to check around, because the main bulb site lists them as what they are not.
I used 10w30, on my last oil change. I’m in Hawaii, so although the oil cap says 5W30 the manual states that if you are in a warm climate 10W30 is ok. However, on my next oil change which is soon I have already bought 5W30

edit, I meant 2825
No oil leaks, just burning that 1 quart I guess.

I had removed the bulb from the dome light and found it burnt out. Looked it up and it’s a type DE3175 bulb. My bulb chart
says that the map lights are as well. I went and ordered online a set of 4 DE3175 leds the other day, (not arrived yet) suspecting that all 3 lights (2 in the map area) had burnt out somehow. So, this afternoon I decide to open the map light area to see what’s happening there as well. They don’t turn on by the switches, so I remove the clear plastic cover and discover to my dismay that they are NOT DE3175 bulbs. Not sure what kind they are as I could not remove them by hand, Not even sure how they come out. There are two philips screws which fasten the whole unit to the roof, so I reckon I’ll remove the screws, take down the unit and have a better look at it and get a feel for how to remove the bulbs. I turn the screws a few turns each, and lo and behold the map lights work again….. No idea, I had never touched them before,,, ever. And, in the middle of running to and fro from house to car for tools and such, an email arrived with your reply. I am still stumped, but at least I’m stumped with map lights, Oh and I tested the voltage at the dome light and it’s getting juice.
Ok, thanks. Vehicle has 90,000 miles on it
