As far as im concerned, i have driven a “spartain luxury car”.. by which, i mean, it has a high-end interior finish, smooth suspension, comfortable seats, and drives like a dream.
I dont find my car to be basic transportation. I take care of it, and it is plenty comfortable enough to be considered luxurious by my standards.. however, a few Japanese options like heated seats and automatic climate control would go a long way.. but only to make it seem more luxurious. As it is, the double wishbone suspension on all four corners offers the smoothest ride of any “normal” and more recent car i’ve been in, and i dont need heated seats cos i dont drive it in the winter, and automatic climate control? Im fine with my buttons and sliders. All i need is my comfortable ride, good handling, fun to drive, and high-quality interior.

Thank you! A friend of mine took it. I plan on getting another rolling shot when my car’s all done.. They are very lovable cars huh? Mines Fuel Inected and all, and i even still have the owners manual, warantee guide/matenence guide, and those cards they had with the purple ribbons to show how the Auto and Cruise work.. so, prety much still new 😛
I also tend to respect people who have “reliable POS’s” more than new cars.. people with new cars tend to buy new so they dont have to deal with repairs and such.. People with old used cars, **who take care of them**, have my respect.
BTW Eric, pics of the 1g Accord?

My car is 25 years old, and i only wish i had bought it when it was 18, i would have had a few more years of good times. As it stands, it needs oil seals, shocks, transmission shifter cable, and tires. When i got it, though, it didnt need anything at all.
I’m in an odd place between “Reliable POS” and just.. that old car i treat like it’s a new car lol.. but right now, each panel has it’s defect, so i guess im past the “new car” phase, where (when i bought it) it still had some perfect panels.. But, i’ve noticed, my first car had only ONE perfect panel, and it got hit 3 times on that fender alone… so, obviously, this car got a nasty scratch and a small ding on it’s perfect door… Funny how that works.anyway, here it is:

My boss seems to push how long it takes me to do something over how well it is done. I guess i do a good job, but it would be nice if Mr Bossman wasnt so bossy. All i hear from him is “You are too slow”
Well forgive me, i’ve only been in it for a total of 5 months.. I dont wana rush shit just to have something go wrong or break..I want to stand by my work, though it’s hard when the owner/boss is thinking about his profit.. but i guess this goes into “shop etiquette” a bit, more than “Quality”
Back to automotive build/design quality, i am proud to say that my Honda has lasted 25 years with out any major issues… As of now, rubber is dry (seals) and that’s basically all. The engine runs like new, and though the car is a tiny bit rough around the edges, it’s mostly cosmetic. If i listed all the stuff that it needed, there would not be anything in the “repair” category. That, to me, is quality at it’s finest. 25 years and not a day went by where any issues came up.

I’ve been told that with the automatic transmission i have to remove the whole engine/transmission together.. and i’ve also been told that is not the case.. Guess we shall see, but i would like to do the oil pressure switch seal, oil pump and seal (my other 3rd gen accord’s oil pressure light started flashing all the time at this age) and whatever else is easy to get to. Water pump and timing belt are going to be done, as they are due in a mere 15k km, so although itll take me 2-3 years to do the miles, its a question of logic there..
Thanks for the ziplock bag idea. I look forward to more comments and advice..

I dont know if i’d say quality of workmanship is a question of perspective. You ither did a proper job, or you did not. If the fact that it takes longer displeases anyone, and they wish for you to go faster, quality will be compromised.
As for interior quality in a car or pickup, or what-have-you, when they made regulard plastic dashes that just felt like crap and looked like crap, i would argue that it was very poor quality, and i doubt anyone can disagree.
Otherwise, i am proud to have a vinyl wrapped dash in my vintage Honda, and i will take proper care of it to keep it clean.
However, i have a bit of a hole in the vinyl at one spot, and a couple scratches. It is 25 years old, afer-all..
BUT, these days, they have the soft-touch plastic, which feels almost like the vinyl. It’s not as soft, and dosnt feel as nice, but on the other hand, i highly doubt itll crack like the oldschool GM dashes are famous for. There are also a host of other quality grades, like the seat fabric and plastics and such, but i think the above example is good enough.
As for mechanical or body quality, thats a tough one to say, but examples of poor quality can be found in many newer cars aswell as older ones. Certain cars love to rust all over the place, and i know mine is one of them.. however, many cars, even after 20 years have passed, are still built with poor metal and rust all over the place.. and they have much less of an excuse.
At the end of the day, however, it’s important to realise that when you do a quality job, costumers come back.

I’ve more-or-less grasped the Honda’s vacuum maze, so i think i’ll be fine as far as a carbed 305.. im just not familier with it at all yet.
I did, however, look up videos, but i dont have any other updates cos it’s been gray and rainy out..even so much as thundering. It’s supposed to be nice out on the week-end, so it may be a day to work on my cars!I’ve more-or-less grasped the Honda’s vacuum maze, so i think i’ll be fine as far as a carbed 305.. im just not familier with it at all yet.
