thank you both for the replies. i have replaced the thermostate and ordered the water pump. it should be in today. after i changed the thermostat it seems to run a little smoother and the check engine light went away but it is still steaming from around the water pump. i think the gasket may just be bad but if im gonna take it all apart i may as well just replace the pump while im at it. the one i ordered came with the fan clutch assembly. so i will be doing both. i tried to take the pump off when i did the thermostat and could not get it. i have a strap wrench im gonna try next. does any body know if on my model ( 05 ranger 2wd 3.0) if the fan clutch nut is reverse thread or not? the person who answers this i will buy a beer for!! lol

ok just to address this fully I AM pretty confident I bled/burped and drained the system of air. I read my manual and it told me to leave the cap off of the radiator and let the engine run. I did this a few times just to take it for a test ride and have it over heat again…sooooo yea air in the system is hopfully not the issue here. I also took the hoses off and ran the hose threw them to make sure none were blocked in any

accident…no overheat….2 days later is when problem started…heres what would happen before I started working on it. I would get in and start the car. as soon as it got to the normal range (pointing straight up at 150) it will keep on going. if I pushed more than 2000 rpm it would get hotter, if I was under that (2000 rpm) it would stay where it was and/or get cooler. at times getting back to the normal range. 1st time around I was on the expressway pretty far from home so I would get it going 75 or 80 and coast it to get the air blowing over the engine without rpms on the engine. worked pretty well, by time I would get to 55 60 mph amd have to hit the gas I would be cooled down to about normal temp. any more details that may help plz ask and ill answer to the best of my ability..

ok buad..heres where I am, I replaced the radiator cuz I knew that was cracked. thermostat was 10 bucks so wth I got one of those on too.. I read my manual and it said to leave the cap off and let it run to burp.. did that. it still over heated.. so I am changing the water pump, I got it off and don’t see any reason it would be faulty at all. so do you or any one else have any more ideas? im gonna replace the pump since its off but im doubting that’s gonna fix her… thanks in advance
Please describe what happens when it overheats?
my trolly jack broke. reason its so important and I don’t want to just buy a new one is that I got it from my mom and she just past away this april..it broke right under where u crank it. its spewing hydraulic oil every time I push down on it. I know its a blown seal. my question is where can I get a new seal and how to fix it. im sure if I look at it that I can figure it out, im pretty mechanically inclined. I was just upset and had to walk away after I realized that it was broke. so if you gentlemen could plz help a guy out and give up any info you may have stored in your brains about this subject. id really be happy. thanks in advance guys. :'( if you need me to post a pic of wear the seal is broke, just let me know and ill get it here asap. its a 2 ton

the reason I believe that it works is that when taken off and took to autobone for testing it worked for 14 when tapped it stayed true the whole time. why would it preform on the testing machine and not when on the vehicle? thank you for your reply
