from what you are saying it does seem that you have a problem with the exhaust.. it might be plugged somewhere..
just to make sure thats not the problem, can you install a pressure gauge in the place of the O2 sensor and see if there is any pressure.. it should be something as close as 0..for the O2 sensor, the car should be able to run without but you will have fuel efficiency problems and might be running rich as the engine will regulate it but you will still be able to achive high mph and high rpm.. just have the wires fixed and check if its working on or not with an obd2 scanner..
you can also check for fuel pressure to make sure you’re getting enough fuel to the engine..
the IAC is one of the simple checks plus fixes, you can just clean it with fuel injection cleaner…
there are lots of possibilities on what your can has..btw, does it drive normally? idle normally after some time?
i had a similar problem on my 97 camaro which turned out to be an electrical connection of the TPS… lots of things could be the problem

I would inspect the IAC as initial startup issues you are having could be because it needs to be cleaned
Also if you can church the readings of the O2 sensors

any service engine codes?
any service engine codes?
hearing the fuel pump doesnt mean its working 100%, you do need to make sure the pump is working, you do need to do a fuel pressure test as 619DioFan mentioned..
i dont think its the timing belt as if that was bad you would hear the pistons hitting the valves making serious damage
is the “Service Engine” light on?? if yes, did you scan to check which code is set?
also is the 350Z turbo or NA?
when does the engine overheat? while running or parked?
does it happen while the A/C is on?
do you have any after market parts on for added performance????
stuff you might need to do.. is service the radiator by cleaning it and cleaning the passages.. make sure the radiator has a clean air passage, which means there is nothing that could clog the passage between the radiator and the A/C radiator or the transmission cooler if Auto.
you could also check if the catalytic converter isnt bad, but you should get a code if thats the case
if the MAF is bad it will give a rough unstable idle, which didnt happen.. the IAT wont stall the engine
also, there are no sensor around the air intake filter/box…
i will take air intake kit apart as i do agree that there must be something inside that’s blocking air flow
Quoted From 380gb:
what kind of filter is it stock, basic, performance, etc and how old is it? Have you confirmed that a clogged filter is not the problem? more specifically how old was the filter at the time of these events? since its only happed 3 times over the last 2 years im thinking that maybe the filter is starting to get clogged causing low air flow and as a result it dies you then eventually change the filter based on your maintenance schedule and then don’t have any problems for awhile until the filter starts to get clogged again. just a thought
One last question at the times this happens were you in park idling, coming to stop, or accelerating. If you were accelerating then i would go with filter or air system being clogged. because with sudden acceleration the engine’s demand for air would suddenly increase and if a blockage of some sort was restricting the airflow then the engine wouldn’t be able to meet demand for air and die.
for your first question, the first time it happened was one week after the car was serviced and had a new filter installed..
second was almost a year later.. not sure if it was the same filter or not..
third time was with a 4 month old filter..
for the second question, it happened all three times while the car was running, twice on the highway and once near my house (accelerating)
yes, and it was is a stock filter
i will check the battery connections and clean them if they do need cleaning, but i dought this is the issue as the engine cranks normally when the issue happens and there is no sign of a bad battery..
nothing was happening when the engine stalled, no rain, no bump, nothing!

(SOLVED!) #441049well.. a freind of mine had a similar issue to that in his 93 Nissan Skyline.. turned out that for some reason his Fuel pump overheats and stops working, then it works normally after it cools down..
he even swapped it with a new one and had the same problem.. ended up buying an aftermarket high performance fuel pump.. and issue was solved..
you could check the fuel pressure as its running tell it stops
finally worked on it.. the problem is as twiggy02919 said.. it was from the battery connections.. the + was dirty and not completely locked in
