OK 1st collage man thanks for the replies! I got the car back from the local mech. told him I’ll have to do it myself and he understood. So when I got it home and scanned for codes again I am now getting P1148 CLOSED LOOP CONTROL FUNCTION BANK 1 ,P0731 1ST GEAR MALFUNCTION, and P1031 AIR FUEL RATIO SENCOR 1 HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW BANK 1. Now I can see where the mech. drilled to do the back pressure test that he did and that’s how he has determined that the 3 cats. are bad. However I did the vacuum test as you had suggested and here is what I have according to that test. At idle 700 rpm engine warm 22 in.of vacuum and 22.5 to 23 in.of vacuum at 2,000 rpm. SO I’M not seeing this as a restricted exhaust. , but are the P1148,P1031 Codes on bank 1 indicating that that is the bad cat. not all 3 or more like a bad air fuel sencor. Is the Air Fuel sencor the same thing as an o2 sencor? So based on these findings what are your thoughts.

Thanks Collage man for that reply. Well got bad news from the local mech. on this issue today. Hes saying its not a tranny problem at all , but rather that the 3 cats. are bad and caused the tranny to go into limp mode. They determined this from a back pressure test they did not by any stored codes. They are saying that 1 cat went (broke up ,etc. , what ever) and caused the other 2 cats to fail .? I m a bit skeptical about this as each exhaust manifold has its own separate cat that go to the single rear cat after the y pipe. Long story short they want $2800.00 to replace the 3 cats. with Easterns. If they are truly bad I can do the job myself. I know its labor intensive on this car , but for 2800.00 i dont have I can spend a bit over 600.00 for parts and do it myself. What are some thoughts about this? The car was running fine with no problems at all until this reccent issue. would the cats. actually go bad and not throw any codes even if one went catastrophically. the car still runs fine with no codes other then the initial P0731 CODE and the fact that it wont go over 30-35 mph. Looking for your ideas.
            Thanks.

Yes, I replaced the fuel cap and tightened all the hoses and checked for cracks and leaks at the canister and the canister filter with air pressure and all seems ok.
