Thanks you reminded me that I put a screwdriver in the sprocket and over the top of the head to put the final tightness on the sprocket bolt after I had gotten it fully on and the bolt snugged up flush and that is how I turned it so the motor did turn in unison.
      Thanks

The head came and I put it in and torqued it. The fuel pump is bolted up and the exhaust manifold is on.

The cam has a post that sticks out to help it mount on the sprocket./ It was less than 1/16th off and I got the sprocket on and tightened up without letting the belt/zip ties move then did the fuel pump and exhaust manifold. I was closing up as I still need the 4 intake bolts and I noticed the timing mark on the cam is off. I looked closer and the crank mark is off by about the same amount. Now I’m wondering if I screwed up and should have checked if the head/cam was set at TDC. Here is a few pics. I’m hoping the while motor moved in unison and is timed.

I’m sitting here waiting for the head which should come today. I have all parts except four intake manifold bolts I ordered at Mitsubishi which come in tomorrow. I am going to put new studs for the manifolds and new head bolts. Hopefully it will be running by noon tomorrow.

                Sorry its so confused.
Thank You but the pCM sets the timing on this and when I did the intake plenum and timing chain a few months ago the distributor was lined up perfectly with the mark it is supposed to be lined up on when you look down on it.
Before I redid the friction tape the issues had been pretty much diagnosed and were waiting for me to get it into the shop. After I put on the tape something new happened in that it changed how it ran both for the better and worse.
Since I disconnected the harness and cleaned. WD’d the connections it has stopping having spark knock and almost acted as it should. There was some lack of power or less power than I feel should be there and the slipping tranny when its hot.
I had started thinking the PCM might be what is causing the tranny to act funny and in my obtuse way was asking if that sounds right. This is embarrassing SORRY too much interweb posting I forgot to run it through my editor. 😐

I decided to pull the harness connector to the PCM and sand actually fell out of it when it lay over away from the PCM. I wiped it down sprayed it and the PCM with WD and put it back in. I drove it for a while and there is a marked improvement including in transmission performance. It went up to 4Krpms getting on the highway just as it should no struggle and basically drove like a everyday driver little truck. When I got off the hwy it did have the slip from a start that it gets when the tranny is hot.

I’m debating if I should install the new TV cable & return spring I got to see if that slip goes away since a bad TV cable adjustment can cause this.

I did the power balance test by pulling the plug wires at the plug and it went as shown in the video. So no cylinder problem from that pov.

I’m tending back to my idea that the PCM may be screwy which you guys lead me away from and helped diagnose the tranny. I will be getting iot rebuilt as soon as I get my other truck running which is on schedule to be done by next Friday if deliveries come and UPS hasn’t broken the head.

I’m watching the videos and it occurs to me that I may have had air in the system from before the Timing belt change. The heater never worked reliably no matter how hot the motor was the heater always seemed cool. The info in these videos tell me that it is probably air or some defect on the heater core. There is also the matter of a missing fan shroud.
If it runs when it is back together I will be checking out the heater core and looking for a fan shroud too.

Good advice Barney. BTW I took the rad out and it has crusting at places where it was leaking around the seems. So if it runs when its back together I am also going to have to get a new one.
