i normally use a torque wrench when im tightening down my cylinder head, engine mounts, valve cover, manifolds, etc but with most things i just use a socket and tighten it down to what i feel is good enough based on what its doing. such as brackets i tighten them down just enough so theres no play in the bracket what so ever.
how often do u run it low ie less than a 1/4 tank
i hear the noise whenever i brake, steer, or drive on a bumpy road. it used to be only when i brake but nows it just got worse. i finally got it on jack stands and checked everything out. my tie rod on the passenger side is loose i thinks its the inner. and i may need a new ball joint as well. and then everything on the driver side looked good except for the rubber seal on my outer tie rod end broke and all of the grease oozed out. i just replaced the outer tie rod ends a year ago. im taking it by a shop sometime this week to get it looked at a little closer
When your reving up the engine do u have the transmission in neutral or is it in gear.
Thats not a bad idea u could have 0-100 posts be first gear 101-200 be second gear 201-300 be third, etc or u could even have 0-99 nuetral 100-199 be first. or something along those lines

How many miles are on it? and do u know if the fluid has ever been flushed?
As far as diagnostic steps idk. transmissions arent my strong suit. but i would start with the TRS. But its probaly going to be a mechanical problem. As far as the miles and fluid change it depends on wether the previous owner kept up on its maintaince schedule. I know if you do a fluid flush for the time over 80000 miles that can definelty cause the slips. if thats the case then you will have to replace it.but i would definetly check all possibilties first before going to a shop. sorry i couldnt be of more help
Ok quick update sry it took me so long to get back to this ive been busy and havent had a chance to work on it. but this weekend im determined to get to the bottom of it. i just went out side and started turning the steering wheel back and forth and heard the popping coming from the passenger side. so i went over and started pushing on the tire with it still on the ground. and i heard a lound clunk or clank sound. it sounded as metal hitting metal. it seemed almost as if the axle had popped out of the transmission and me pushing on it popped it back into place. im going to go get the floor jack and jack stands and start looking around the suspension. ill keep you guys updated.
The spell check seems to be working when i post a new topic but not when im posting a reply
Might i suggest properly breaking in your engine when you get it back from the dealer. it might help in prolonging the life.
ya, please do keep us updated im very curious as to what went wrong after only 20,000 miles. and i wasnt claiming you were to blame or that you didnt properly break it in the first time. i was just saying to make sure you do it this time.
the spell check hasnt been working for me. idk if its my browser or what but its still not underlineing the misspelled words. im using Safari idk if that makes a difference or not
ya, i definently think we should get a poll system. Great Sugestion
Quoted From Xyius:
My brother has the same problem on his 2000 cavalier! Except his problem is in the rear brakes. I tried to pull the tire off to look at them but the tire was stuck on like no bodies bussiness! Still haven’t gotten it off. And I don’t have a big sledge hammer like eric does in that one video he made about removing a stuck tire, and I didn’t want to kick it real hard for fear of knocking it off the jack stands.
To get the tire off all you need to do is loosen the lugnuts slightly and then take the car for a quik drive and that should pop the tire loose.
