My guess is ignition switch or starter solenoid is going out.

Engine oil consumption is normal on engines as their mileage goes up, my fathers 1997 Ford Expedition with almost 200,000 burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles, no smoke though, usually there is nothing you can do about it unless its an oil leak, oil leaks are easily repaired but if there are no oil leaks, it is burning the oil, unless you are seeing smoke or it’s going through more a quart of oil 500 miles or so, the car should be fine. The only way to stop an oil burning situation is an engine rebuild of some sort, more than likely a top end rebuild but you might need a complete rebuild to stop the oil seeping past the piston rings. what I would do is just keep an eye on the oil level and top it off when it needs it.

let us know what happens
good luck! B)

One? Dang… that’s tough. I’d probably have to say the antifreeze tester my dad gave me from the 70s. I doubt it’s replaceable.
If it looks a lot like a turkey baster i have those as well. One for coolant and One for Batteries.

The one tool I can’t live without for sentimental reasons is my dad’s 1/2″ Drive Round head 1970’s fine tooth quick release Craftsman ratchet with knurled turning knob.

I have this same exact ratchet, it’s irreplaceable!

be VERY careful, if you are leaking tranny fluid and it is smoking from contact with a hot surface, fix it immediately!!! ATF, although not as flammable as gasoline, still catches on fire easily. if you are leaking iATF but it isn’t what is causing the smoke, still fix it but it isn’t near as urgent

I would go in this general order
1: check the oil (all the things said by the others apply about the oil quality apply) and other fluid levels
2:Remove plugs
3: insert some sort of lubricant into the cylinders and let soak for at least a day or so
4: as cylinders soak look at the condition of the carb, remove if necessary (will probably have to remove), fix and reinstall
5: insert a cheap inline fuel filter before the carb
6: crank over engine with spark plugs out (this will remove any excess oil in the cylinder)
7: have a friend crank over the engine for you as you ground a plug to the engine block, check for spark (BE VERY CAREFUL TO NOT SHOCK YOURSELF)
8: insert spark plugs (make sure they are in the correct order)
9: try to start the engine

these are very universal rules for older cars and the carburetor will very likely need a slight rebuild and a cleaning but there is a chance of it being fine.

Good luck! B)

Honestly that seems to be about right but to honestly be sure, get the VIN off of the dashboard, not the door (could of been replaced) the VIN will tell all about a car

I’ve seen sets of BFG all terrains go well over 100,000 miles however they weren’t really “all terrain” by that point lol, but anyways I like the BFG all terrains and also another great truck tire for the street is a good set of Cooper radials, they last for a LONG time on the street

A “good” beater depends from car to car, It depends on how the drive train was maintained, honestly the best beaters can be anything from a Ford in a minor collision to a Toyota that’s been beaten up over the years. It different from car to car, I have had Friends that have bought anything from a 1979 Ford LTD with A/C for $850 to an 1986 Dodge sedan for $750, most of which I came to help them examine the car for them to buy, I mainly look for oil leaks, oil stains on the bottom of the hood, burning oil, performance issues, etc,… I can’t really say one car dominates all in these situations the only thing I can say is REALLY examine the car, the lower the cost, the more of a chance it’s a lemon, however every now and then you strike gold.

My guess is if it’s only that cylinder, the fuel injector for that cylinder might be leaking too causing the one cylinder to run rich thus fouling up the cylinder. the other problem might be an oil leak on that cylinder, do you see any smoke coming from the exhaust when it’s running? if you do is it a blackish looking smoke or a white lingering smoke?

I’m Actually kinda of agreeing with the dealer or the “ford America” I’m guessing that the added strain of the extra weight of the limo might emphasize the oiling issues, I would replace with a high output pump if possible on it and see if that helps, it would also solve the performance issues with the phaser. But Oil pressure is caused by the clearances between all the moving parts in an engine, the closer the clearances the higher the pressure, low oil pressure is caused by the excessive wear and expansion of these clearances due to a lack of lubrication, that is why your new engine has great oil pressure, I would install the high output pumps on all of the engines at some point as a preventative measure to keep this from happening to them and greatly extending the life of the engines, it sounds like the other engines are fairly healthy at the moment so you don’t have to do them immediately but if there is ever a chance where they’re not rented out for a couple of days I would put one in them.

You haven’t listed any problems, so how can I diagnose anything so far you’ve only told me that compared to other limos thisone has lower oil pressure, like I said low oil pressure isn’t a huge problem uless it fluctuates alot while maintaining a certain speed, no oil pressure is a problem however. Unless you can list more issues with the vehicle (CEL, knocking, performance issues, etc…) we can’t really help you
