I’ve been asked about this a LOT. Thing is I hardly ever see them in the shop so it’s very difficult to make videos on things I don’t have. Also, I want to be sure to cover naturally aspirated engines before I get into performance work. I guess the long and the short of it is I’ll get to it at some point, just not sure when.
Thanks for the suggestion.
understood, i know you covered natural aspiration at one point, the benefits of long narrow runners vs short fat runners, how they affect the velocity of air coming into the engine or air restriction or lack there of.
I whole heartedly can not say I feel like a technician. I did three years in high school auto shop my second year landed my first dealer job washing cars, changing oil so in other words b*&%$ duty. I went in thinking I am the hottest burger off the grill, if you get what I mean. Boy was I wrong. I messed up big time, a 3500 Silverado dully’s bedside and a gate became best friends…I got fired 🙁 . The summer of going to college for automotive I got a nice job at a shop changing oil with a nice sponsorship to pay for wherever I want. I didn’t screw up there I got laid off. the guy that I was supposed to replace didn’t quit so I got bumped out. I am currently getting my 2 year degree in automotive and I did a lot of job in my class was the “go to guy” but ill tell you what man I hate being that. All I do is change parts, I want to learn more diagnosing. I have some experience working on cars, I fix my fiancés families cars my families and friends cars’ by far don’t know it all.id agree with people when they say school doesn’t do it all, experience does, you can be book smart replace a few parts but you have to be street smart. I guess with all of my rambling all I am saying is that, dont be an idiot and don’t brag like I did, people don’t care about what you say you’ve done you need to show you can do it.if I were to redo working at the dealership I got my job at I wouldn’t be

yep, that is the issue, there is a difference between knowing how a car works and being told how too do the job, and actually knowing how to do it, but the only way too know how to fix a car fast like a good mechanic, is getting experience, and well going too work and gaining the experience. at MCTI there where no jobs where we had to get it done in a certain time, i was able however to do a front and rear toe alignment on a car in an hour and a half once… and i was timed, but there where no major jobs mechanics do all the time that i was clocked to do.
i am willing to be the oil change boy, or the guy sweeping the shop and taking out the trash, but just getting too that point seems difficult.

dude, go through what i have been through, then not be upset, i dont go around with the attitude of feeling sorry for myself every day, i come too express my feelings alright, is that ok?
i have worked my ass off too get where i am, and there are plenty of people like you who wont even take a second too understand what i have been through, and that is why i work a fricking 7.40 an hour slave labor job! rather than working the career i have worked so hard just too attempt too get into, do you know how hard it is too get through six terms of MCTI let alone graduate with honors? you have no idea who i am, so don’t you ever assume beacuse i express my feelings once as a attempting technician, that i am the person who drags my ass around feeling sorry for myself!

have you erased the code from your PCM, or have you unplugged your battery too reset the PCM? if you want the engine light too turn off sometimes you have to unplug the battery to do that. if not the issue may lie in the wiring if it is a o2 sensor code, or another issue… first try too unplug the battery from your car or erase the code with a scan tool.
How about filthy cars, especially when you have to do interior work on a car that is someones trash dump. Not only is it nasty, but you have to work around it and I’ve seen somethings that have scared me for life haha.
this is something that always irritated me, i will take a shower it old transmission fluid, motor oil, but when you have species of mold growing in your car i have never seen before, coffee stains spilled all over, cigarrette smoke stained interior, it smells like someone died in your car, thats where i sort of became irritated too. i quickly got used to this however working at Stap Brothers… the people using the vehicle had absoluetly no reguard for the interior or exterior condition of there vehicle and the stuff you would find… just another day in the shop…
as a general pet peeve of mine is when another technitian tries too tell me how something works and they have no idea.. my very shop manager once told me that the higher the octane of Gasoline the faster it burns, and i had to look it up too prove to him, the higher the octane the slower the burn, part of what makes it so knock resistant! but i have dealt with other technitians worse and it would drive me nuts, what are these people telling there customers!?
but putting up with things is part of being a tech… rule number 1, its always the technicians fault, never the engineers, never the customer… not even the manager or job owner, the technician. as bullcrap as it is, its often the way it is in many peoples eyes beacuse people like too play the blame game to worm out of there own crap…

i would highly recommend not dumping sea foam straight into the intake of a high mileage engine as peaces of carbon may brake off and clog up your catalytic converter causing more driving issues… this is with my experiences anyway…
as for the temp sensor, i am not sure, it may not be too far from the thermostat, as with both my Buick Century, and Buick Regal, coolant temperature sensor is not far, but this may differ with your vehicle as it is a Subaru.

do you mean Powertrain Control Module/ Electrical Control Module? a PCM/ECU? be aware this differs if you have a manual or automatic transmission…
