many crank sensors are located behind the harmonic balancer, the pully on the crankshaft in front of the engine, also like my car, in most cases, too get them off you must remove the harmonic balancer using a pully puller… like with my car.

      http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/IDI0/190478/02807.oap?year=2001&make=Acura&model=MDX&vi=1419746&ck=Search_crankshaft+position!s!angle+sensor_1419746_3861&keyword=crankshaft+position!s!angle+sensor

this is apparently what the part looks like for your car, see if you can spot anything not too far from the Harmonic balancer that looks like it.

a bad crank sensor in 3800s in GM cars like buicks if falty re noted too just randomly shut cars off, at first the car will run awesome, then all of a sudden the car will just quit even going down the road… if you have a distributored ignition system it may be different for this car.

a rough idle can be caused buy a dirty or defective MAF sensor, a falty idle air control and a multitude of other things, to narrow things down its best too plug a scan tool in and see what may pop up!

              OH

with a catalitic converter clogged typically drivability concerns are noticed the heavier engine loads get…

              ALSO

the MAF sensor, inspect it see if there is any damage too the little sensors, spray some MAF seonsor cleaner on it liberally, and then let it set for a little while too dry and then put it back in… see if that helps.

as you can see from my avatar, my first car was a 2000 Buick Century custom, good car… i loved that car, ill help you the best i can.

the first thing i would do is run a fuel system pressure test, the fuel pumps in these cars are known for going out, sometimes doing funny things, i think fuel pressure should be somewhere around 45-50PSI… cannot exactly remember, but if fuel pressure is low its going too act funny unless you feather the throttle like you are doing, i think that may richen the mixture and may be helping your shutter problem along.

check the fuel regulator, sometimes the fuel regulators go bad in these cars, its a easy as peasy fix just depressurize the fuel system first! i learned the hard way when i did her fuel lines too depressurize the fuel system when doing fuel system work, i took a shower in gasoline while she was on a lift and i was cutting a fuel line too her old rusty fuel filter! if the inside of the fuel regulator smells like gas, replace…

run some Lucas full fuel system cleaner through the fuel system, maybe its a little clogged up or dirty or fuel injectors fouled, seafoam even, there is this brand i am trying on my regal that works good too, not sure what the brand name is… sometimes that helps a little

check your plugs and wires, these engines aren’t super finacky but still… i installed NGK V Powers in my Century and it ran great, these cars like NGK and most of all AC Delco plugs.

check for any vacuum leaks, i remember one time driving her she started too buck and kick and the engine light came on, the hose too the PCV came loose from the intake plumbing and that caused some awful results… there is a little plastic tube that runs from the rocker cover under the ignition coils… too the intake tube, sometimes that pops loose, and i have noticed that can cause some drivability concerns.

                  hope this helps

i understand the concept of the flat rate guys doing the big work need to be un interrupted, thats how those shops make prophet, flat rate… though i think its a obsolete system, many shops still use it.

however it kind of hurts the new mechanics, there is no room for them too learn the ropes, and they get stuck with the hourly wages, but that doesn’t irritate me as much as the manager who has been working on cars since he was a kid, and expects the new guy fresh out of school too know everything!

I guess i’m gonna have to condense it. I’m sure your education wasn’t easy. I just wish i had a better education.

I just thought that i might piss you off enough for you to stop complaining and start fighting for what you want outta life. I didn’t intend to insult you and i’m sorry for that.

I just want you to know that you have to work hard and fight for most things in life. I’m 63 and I have fought for everything that i have and it ain’t much. Nobody will kiss ur ass and give it to you.

when you already have the pedal too the floor, how much farther can you put the pedal down, i am going out and putting in multiple applications into places, walking into places that would regularly request internet applications, a non automotive job that i am applying for i have put in three or four applications, no luck, put in a application into autozone once, i didn’t get hired, a cute girl did and i asked for them too check my engine light, and i had too show the girl how too use the scan tool wow…

i understand the concept of no one is going too kiss my ass, i understand the concept of i have to go out and get it, no body is going too hand it to me, issue is there are too many people that are getting it handed too them, and lots of other people looking for jobs that already are looking for that same job, with more tools and more experience!

my intent is not trying too feel bad for myself, if i did my apologies, my intent was too see those who share my issue with me.
I’ve been asked about this a LOT. Thing is I hardly ever see them in the shop so it’s very difficult to make videos on things I don’t have. Also, I want to be sure to cover naturally aspirated engines before I get into performance work. I guess the long and the short of it is I’ll get to it at some point, just not sure when.

                                  Thanks for the suggestion.
understood, i know you covered natural aspiration at one point, the benefits of long narrow runners vs short fat runners, how they affect the velocity of air coming into the engine or air restriction or lack there of.
