A while back I replaced the water pump on my 1996 f150. It is fuel injected. During the replacement I put in a 180 degree thermostat versus a 195 degree thermostat.. The parts place did not know which one i had so i guessed, I put in the cooler one not thinking it would hurt. Recently I have had problems with car stalling at idle usually at a stoplight.. Then its hard to start up. It has happened twice in the last month. Just wondering if thermostat could cause this. No error codes on scantool.

I will not talk about thermostat possibly causing/no causing issue. I do have a 96 F150 4X4 5.8 engine. Give more details on stailing and hard to start.

ya I dont think its the thermostat that is causing the problem…
unless you are getting the car to hot….it would be more if the car was cold… but it just means that the car is getting cooler water in it at 190 and will stay at that temperature… you can technically run a car with out a thermostat in it… you just will not get any heat.. and might be harder to start in the winter
