I bought a Craftsman workbench with roller drawers. It was pretty pricey. However, there is a decent work bench that caught my eye the other day. It has good reviews for being a $100 unit.

Hahaha I’ve made a madman out of dreamer 🙂
January 27, 2012 at 11:00 am #458249I would check craigs list – here in my area I see people selling nice work benches all the time for 50.00. can’t buy the lumber for that price ( you may even find someone giving one away for free ) . me- I have a large shop cart and a welding table , between the two it works(bench) for me.
January 28, 2012 at 11:00 am #458250yep I echo 619DioFan’s sentiment… craigslist is your friend. Otherwise I’d try and make your own if you’re feeling handy. I built a few of my own and really the trick is knowing what you want out of a work bench (height, how wide of a work surface, place to hold your screwdrivers, or units to hold the power tools, bolts, etc…). Take a gander online at different set ups, and then go to a store like Lowes, harbor freight, HD or what have you and look at the design.
You can build one for relatively cheap if you already have some of the tools and material. I have an excess of screws, and lags so it was relatively cheap to frame out a bench with 2x4s and some spare 3/4″ plywood. Let us know what you end up doing!
January 29, 2012 at 11:00 am #458251I made a solid 2 ft x 6 ft wood bench out of 2 x 6 and plywood top for $20 CAD, made it in an hour and should last a long time. My buddy who is a carpenter even admitted how well I built it. 🙂
January 29, 2012 at 11:00 am #458252check out your local goodwill stores, I bought a professional computer table for $50 and another $10 for a small filing cabinet I use for holding chemicals(it even had a lock and key).
It was $70 total with tax.
Then i just added my vise and hopefully a bench grinder when I save up some money.
February 9, 2012 at 11:00 am #458253Update. Have a friend who is good at making things from scratch. So I asked him. He showed me how he makes his benches. Just get your plywood and rip it long ways. Now you have two bench tops. I am just building one for now. Then you get some 2x4s that are 8 feet long. They are the same length at the plywood. Just frame them to the bottom of the plywood. Then cut some 4x4s for legs. Got all the wood for $25. Will make a video if it works. I should frame near the bottom, but am going to try it with out for now.
