Wires cracking

Hi guys. My rear right inner tail light isn’t a working and over read that the “brown” wires breaking and cracking to cause the problem. The photos I’ve seen is where the wire is fully broken.

Could these cracks cause that? The wires themselves seem fine but the plastic is cracked

If the exposed wire(s) are coming into contact with any part of the vehicle metal or to each other..
That will cause any number of issues.

Are these wires connected to the trunk lid? Years of flexing by opening and closing the trunk can cause them to fail.

There really should be a grommet in that sheet metal opening to protect the wires. You can make your own by slitting a length of rubber vacuum line lengthwise and pushing it over the metal edge.
