This topic is just to question the As Seen On TV WIPE NEW Headlight Restore. I don’t need to use this product but thought Input on it would be helpful in the future.

So does it work? Does it not work? What’s your input on it?

To me, the commercials are nothing but staged fluff. I imagine that fake hazing seen in the ads and which wipes off so easily with one pass has been artificially put there.

It is actually normally the oil gets down into the cracks and crevasses and fills it in making it look new. Then between rain, wind, dirt, etc. hitting it, it washes out and you are back to square one. I heard about using Off! with Deet that its supposedly reverses the chemical process that makes it but, I am pretty sure its the same thing happening.

Fine sandpager followed by very fine sandpaper followed by polish (toothpaste is a polish). People have been doing it for years. Some of the better kits come with the above or you can head for the hardware store.

I wish it worked like they show on TV.

Best method I have found is to use the 3m kit for the drill. Wet sand the entire time till you get to the compound. Wiping off the pads and lens after each full lens pass. Then doing the compound with the cutting pad. Then clean the entire lens with an appropriate cleaner and rinse and dry with a microfiber towel. Then sealing it with a UV protective non yellowing clear coat. Then putting on a layer of wax. That seems to be the best combination though I didn’t use a clear coat I used a lens sealer and regret it. Clear coat would have been much better and the wax protects the clear coat. If it was me i would probably put several layers of clear coat on it. then the wax.

The more honest commercials show the very best case scenario. Many commercial are just complete B.S.

Off! and toothpaste being used to clean plastic. And just think, one of them you spray on your body and the other, you put in your mouth.
People ask, “Is it safe to use on my car?” The real question is, “Just how safe is this stuff to use on my person?”

Cleaning headlights is pretty much gonna end up a regular detailing routine much like wash and wax, tire shine, etc.
If any ONE headlight restore method lasted any amount of time, we would not have people recommending all kinds of things like toothpaste, polish, bug killer, wipe new etc to do the job.
