Winshield Wiper travel

I have an 03 Honda Accord. The windshield wipers have started to exceed the normal travel. The driver side wiper is hitting the window frame and the passenger side wiper is hitting the bottom window cowling. This just recently started and does not occur all the time. The wipers should only exceed there down travel when they are turned off not while they are wiping. I do not believe it is just a matter of adjusting the wipers on their mounts. I think something is worn in the motor assembly that is causing this. I am looking for some suggestions from someone who has encountered this problem before. Thanks.

A common problem actually. What happens is the rods that work the wipers and connect them to the motor have plastic ends that break and as a result cause the problem you’re having. You’ll need to remove the wipers and the cowl under them to access these rods. If it were me I would just buy both of them and replace them at the same time but you could just find which one is broken and replace that one only. BTW you can’t get just the plastic parts you need to get the whole rod but they aren’t that expensive and pretty easy to replace when you get to them.

The parts are different per vehicle. Just look up wiper transmission and you should be able to find them. Also, if you call the Honda dealer you can check with their parts department to find out what the numbers are. I don’t know the numbers off the top of my head. Once you have the part numbers it should be easy to find a less expensive source.
