I’m a bit puzzled by the news that replica DeLoreans will be going into production soon.

Well, not puzzled by the replicas themselves – more power to the company for giving it a shot – but by the prices. If a fully-restored original DeLorean can be had for around $65k, why would you spend an estimated $100k on a replica? Or is originality not the point here?

there is a company out west that bought all of Deloren N.O.S. years ago, They can build you a new old Delorean and they even have all of the stuff to make it just like the one from Back to the Future.

Yes, that’s what I’m referring to – did you see the clickable link in my first post?

What puzzles me is this: right now, you can buy an original 1980s DeLorean and have it fully restored, by DMC in Houston, for about $65k. So why would you pay $100k to buy one of DMC’s just-announced replicas? Where’s the value in the additional $35k?

OK, the replicas will use a new engine, but is that alone worth the $35k premium over a fully-restored original?

From what I read the entire car is N.O.S. and the price of new was to be around $55k. Unless someone else is producing them now because the company I am thinking of has been making new old deloreans for something like 20 years. They are not replicas but the real thing.

No, that’s the cost (plus another $10k or so) of a full restoration of an original 1980s DeLorean.

Again, no. They’ve only been doing restorations up till now. The replicas will be coming in the next year or so, and they are expected to be priced around $100k.

As I said, I llnked to the news story in my first post. Here is it again: DeLorean replicas are on the way

Well one good reason to buy the replica is they are going to repower it with a modern engine. Thats the problem with the original from what I understand. The car drives and handles great…But its completely gutless

If I had the money I would totally buy one. Being a kid in the 80’s, Delorean ownership is on my bucket list

Is a new engine really worth an extra $35,000? OK, you’ll also be getting an uprated trans etc, but even so, it seems like a very hefty premium to pay to own a non-original DeLorean.

I think this would be the perfect application for an all-electric vehicle.

The Delorean was a dog of a car all around my old boss had one and it really is not that good of a car.
