I made this video in response to some of the detractors of my Acura Vigor out there. I hope this video makes my argument that this particular vehicle might be the ultimate reliable POS. What are your thoughts?

I get it …
Thanks for great video Eric.August 18, 2014 at 5:35 pm #622927I feel the same about my 1999 crv it’s not going to win a race. It still runs like new and looks great!!
On a side note. I think I have this whole forum thing figured out. So, my post should improve with photos! banana:
Attachments:August 18, 2014 at 8:03 pm #622939Like my old Buick Regal was before the engine went out for the second time, could run into a shopping cart, play bumper cars with my buddies didn’t madder, it ran well for the most part before the engine spun yet another connecting rod bearing, you just don’t know what you are getting when you get a engine from a junk yard.
August 19, 2014 at 4:46 am #623120When you said “stealth factor,” it reminded me of a great SNL spoof advertisement for the Chameleon.

A long time ago, I installed an aftermarket CD player in my second car. The universal mounting kit had some additional pieces, which included a plate that snapped onto the front on the mount. I disassembled the factory radio, which lacked a cassette player, and glued the OEM cover, knobs, and a tinted piece of glass to the plate from the mounting plate. The OEM face was then snapped onto the mount to disguise the aftermarket unit underneath.
August 19, 2014 at 12:09 pm #623217Ive always like Eric’s 1993 Acura Vigor because it has features that are one of a kind for that year of vehicle. And i to like vintage Honda and Acura’s. I think Eric’s Acura Vigor is a perfect example of what a reliable POS is just like Eric stated. And hope to see more repair videos and ETCG 1 videos for it
August 21, 2014 at 12:47 am #623650I remember being at a gm dealer and someone brought one of those in for a starter. My fat hands have never been more upset with me.
August 22, 2014 at 1:18 pm #624041Eric, your Vigor reminds me so much of my Vauxhall Omega….

She’s got a 2.5 V6 and runs (touch wood) like a dream.
I one-thousand per cent get why you have it as a reliable POS and when I think about it… cos my OCD is bad this would actually make so much more sense.
However, I have taken a slightly different approach…. I’m doing up the minimal body work issues with new panels as i want to take this to shows. plus side is I get a great looking car (if youre in to it…lots of people dislike its looks) and the bad side is I’ve turned in to some sort of freak. I cant park it up without making sure its in the most secure spot, make sure several times its locked…. you get the picture lol
But anyway…. I really like the Vigor: old skool luxury
🙂
August 22, 2014 at 2:57 pm #624052Yesterday I was able to fix the last piece of the AC system (expansion valve). Monday I plan to make the system work again in a video. Now I’ll have a reliable POS where everything works. Too cool.
April 26, 2015 at 4:57 am #662161Fellow Vigor owner here, with 265,000 miles and counting.
Those wiper arms: If you use some newspaper, tape, and PJ1 Satin Black Engine Paint on the arms it will really help cut the glare during sunset driving. I’ve found now the OEM paint’s gone on them a repaint every few years is needed.I fit in the Vigor better than my ’03 TL-S, you sit in the car and low to the road. Not sure if you found the HVAC work difficult, but I did when I did it about 10 years ago now.
Last repair I did on it was an alternator replacement. Can get a new, made in China, one for it on Amazon for a reasonable $149, but the one I got had a noisy diode pack, which would throw code 23’s and set the MIL. The output line runs parallel to the knock sensor wire for awhile and was inducing a false front knock sensor code. I put in a new diode pack for $49 and solved that issue.
Paid $15k for it in ’94, so it doesn’t seem like a $500 reliable POS driver to me. I mean, I’m coating the door seals with Krytox to stop the interior noise, for heaven’s sake (and, yes, it works). I kind of think (since yours has 137K miles on it) the longer you’re with it the more fond you’ll grow of it. Thing I like the best is the transmission programming. Nice shifts, sharp, straight shifter (not that J-gate stuff), always seems to choose the right gear for conditions, rather than trying to push high early and coast like a runaway train up to a light, favoring CAFE fuel numbers over driver performance. What’ll kill it is the parts are becoming hard to find. Shame.
Cheers, Scott

Funny, I just shot a video of how to paint the windshield wipers the other week. It will likely be a Premium Member video however.
Thanks for your input.

Quoted for truth.
My S-10 Blazer has had 5 engines through; due to at least 3 in a row, from.. *dun-dun-DUNNN…* – ….. Junk yards.

I love wagons. We used to have an Olds wagon that was the generation before yours. It was an 85 and it had the wimpiest V8 ever made by GM. Still loved the wagon part of it though.
Good luck with the car and thanks for sharing it.

I have no interest in painting the Vigor. Besides, the body is too far gone to even consider it. The body work I did 2 years ago is already rusting again. as I knew it would. I see no point in making that investment of time and money. I’d rather put my money into making the car perform better. It being my reliable POS and all.
