      Was watching Dan’s O2 sensor testing part 4 video. (This is part of the premium video series of his, you have to pay to access those videos) And I thought to share this part with the members here.

      A student asked why aftermarket cats just don’t work very well and Dan explained that many aftermarket converter manufacturers skimp on the platinum, in fact some don’t put any in at all. He was able to confirm this through a local recycling place that told him they are wary of taking an aftermarket cat in as they are too low on the precious metals.

      This also explains the huge difference in price of a OEM cat vs an aftermarket CAT.

        Thanks for the information! Now I know why CA is so picky on only dealer cats. While my inner-hippie is glad I spent the $650 for my GM Official cat…my wallet still doesn’t feel any better.
