        Welcome to the forum.

The sizes are dependent on application. There is no universal size.

You can pick up most axle nut sockets for around $20. If you have air tools, i would recommend impact axle sockets over using the chrome ones.

Just happened to see a local Autozone had some. I think they were 17 bucks each. Then do not borrow it out so you can keep it!

The European and some of the Japanese car makers use 12 point axle nuts. Most of the tooltruck brands such as Mac,Matco,Cornwell and Snap On,you pay over $20.00 just for one axle nut socket.

If you’re going to buy a set, get the following sizes: 29mm, 30mm, 32mm, 34mm, 35mm and 36mm. You’ll need 38mm if you’re working on large vehicle applications. I bought some Lisle axle nut sockets and they were garbage (horrible finish, mars up the chrome, etc.). I also bought a Powerbuilt 35mm and it was just as bad, if not worse than the Lisles. I spent the extra $$ and bought some Armstrong sockets (made in USA and bloody fantastic). The Armstrong sockets were about 40% more expensive than the Taiwanese Lisle and Powerbuilt sockets, but they are 1000% better quality. I sold the other sockets at a loss but I still feel like I’m better off for doing it.

I have the 12 point set from grey pnumatic only used once but the socket did the job with no problems, the finish and quality are not the same as matco / snap on but what is? you can get them on sale at any good auto parts store. just ask for there tool flyer.
