      2003 Honda CRV 2W 2.4L DHOC, It’s become apparent that my Crankshaft Position needs replacing ASAP (we’re still without our OBD capabilities, the in-the-car port won’t work for confirmation) as it’s now being very rough at a stop. My question has to do with the part needed itself. One store says I need the compatible OE# 37510-PNB-003 and another says I need the 37500-PNB-003, The two OE parts look very different from each other, one appears to sit lower into the case than the other. Short of taking it out is there any clue in the VIN or a sticker somewhere under the hood?

        I can’t tell you for sure. The part style may have been changed. Get the OE style
        or call Honda parts and see if the price is reasonable or try online for a Honda part.

          Almost sure its the second one you have listed. DENSO 1962003 is the aftermarket one I would ask for although you may find a cheaper one, Denso makes the ones for Honda.

            Would there be two different sensors? One called camshaft and the other crankshaft?

              Ok, no obd2… I have the camshaft sensor on its way, but here’s the symptoms. At an idle the car stalls, smell of burning (no we haven’t driven it since this occurred and noise out of the exhaust, quickly going to the nearest autoparts store for a “sounds like” diagnosis before heading home and parking it). Prior to this it was stumbling on acceleration, 3000 rpms, but that stopped and this appeared.

              Should I also get the crankshaft sensor, the auto parts guy said likely the camshaft, that’s where the confusion came I think in talking to other parts stores.

                I prefer to start with the code, but it doesn’t sound like you have that capability. It’s unfortunate, without the code you’re flying blind and just guessing as to what the issue is.

                  Update, we have the OBD2 back (bad 10 amp under the hood), code PO303. 3 cylinder misfire. If a sensor of the OE# 375XX-PNB-003 series , it’d be likely the camshaft (510) and not crankshaft (500)?

                    You would want the DENSO manufactured Camshaft and Crankshaft position sensors. DENSO is the OE supplier.

                    DENSO 1962004 Camshaft Position Sensor
                    DENSO 1962003 Crankshaft Position Sensor

                    P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected is your actual code the 2nd character is always a ZERO 0 and not an O.
                    However what you have is a misfire which can be caused by any number of things. You also have a distributor-less ignition system with ignition coils built into the spark plug boots.

                    So your causes could be:

                    Bad Spark Plug
                    Bad ignition coil boot
                    Bad Camshaft sensor
                    Bad crankshaft sensor
                    Incorrect Air/Fuel ratio
                    Valve/timing issues

                    Among other things.
