That reminds me of a couple of years ago. I had to buy a new spade and did not want a cheap made in china piece of crap. Seen this nice spade that cost at least 3 times of other spades there. Fiskars, made in U.S.A. was on the label. I was happy I found a made in U.S.A. spade, bought it never thought twice of the price. I got home started digging and noticed a big “CHINA” on back of spade. I was so P O ‘d, made telephone calls to Fiskars, e-mailed other such as orgs of MADE IN THE USA to let it be known I did not appreciate how the tags of origin are done.
It gets my heart rate up every time I think about it!
January 29, 2012 at 11:00 am #458072Darn shame but it’s true… it’s like “green” or “light” “organic” or “fat-free”… just buzzwords to get you to buy the product. Dig a little deeper and you may unfortunately be surprised at what you find. 🙁

January 30, 2012 at 11:00 am #458074Hmm..Sad but true. I think its more important to look at quality of design more so then where its made nowadays. Even I have seen poorly made products with USA stamped on the side of them. Sad…But true. Manufacturing is not what it used to be. We have been forced into a disposable world.
January 31, 2012 at 11:00 am #458075Where’s it all made? China. Why do you think it’s all Mickey Mouse? I’ve talked to guys who say they haven’t touched an SAE sized tool in about a decade and a half, if not longer.
January 31, 2012 at 11:00 am #458076I had a conversation with a couple of my friends today and one of them claimed that MOST of the parts of General Motors cars today are made in China. This fellow is unfortunately more infatuated with the sound of his own voice than he is informed.
Do any of you have an idea of how much Chinese content might be found on GM vehicles? My guess is that it is very little, that “important” components are made in North America, and that it is more economical to make most vehicle components in North America.
I have been paying close attention to Fiat and Chrysler since Fiat has taken control of Chrysler. I think the following facts are interesting here.
The Fiat 500 is a very successful car in Europe. It is built in Tychy, Poland alongside the Fiat Panda and the Ford Ka. They share the same platform. Fiat builds Diesel engines in Italy with GM. VM Motori is owned by Fiat and GM 50/50. This is typical of today’s auto manufacturers. They are international companies.
The US version of the Fiat 500 is assembled in Mexico with the 1.4 liter 4 cylinder built in Michigan. I suspect that many other important parts are built here. Actually the Fiat 500 built in Poland has some key components made in the US. Key components of Fiat’s Multiair (the cutting edge variable valve timing system) are made here and were developed by the US firm that makes these pieces. Fiat buys turbochargers from Borg Warner. So do manufacturers all over the world.
The idea that everything is cheaper to build in China despite the cost of shipping is often an error, I think. Fiats has plans to build Maseratis and Alfa Romeos here in the US for sale here as well as for sale overseas.
It seems to me that what is actually happening is quite different from what most folks think.
In Italy, Italians are now concerned that Fiat is becoming an American company. Here some folks claim Chrysler is becoming an Italian company. In fact, all the big auto manufacturers are becoming international and it is possible to source quality parts from most of the continents.January 31, 2012 at 11:00 am #458077Quoted From Chevypower:

That’s odd as some of the Jeeps and GM’s i have worked on had some SAE bolts.
Besides, the metric system is easier to read and is more uniform throughout the world than the American SAE. C:P
February 1, 2012 at 11:00 am #458078I personally do not mind if things are made in China as long as they are durable, and backed up with a good warranty and local repair centre.
February 1, 2012 at 11:00 am #458079I buy product for quality and price. Never base on where it is made from.
