Where in HE** is my oil going???

They make a Five minute oil flush in a can. You could try that to clean out those holes. That is and excessive amount of oil you’re going through.

I’ll attempt to post a couple of photos of the PCV Valve’s location and the engine itself.

Well my wife helped me get the photos on the site, because I gave up. They’re kind of large, but you can see pretty good anyways.

Just had write back to let you guys know that I added the quart of MMO and topped it off with a quart of 5w-30 this morning, because it was low again. He just called me up and told me that he had driven 168 miles and the oil level is about 1/8″ from the bottom of the dipstick, so it’s pretty low on oil. The oil light wasn’t on yet though.

I can’t believe that this engine is using that much oil, but it must be true. I have a strong feeling that we will end up tearing this down in order to stem this tide of oil usage. I don’t think I’ll have the time to keep adding solvents to try and clear it up before he heads off to school.

Honestly I don’t recommend doing a rebuild as that actually gets more expensive than replacing with a salvage unit when you get done buying parts and doing the machining. If you DO decide to rebuild it yourself get to know your local machine shop as they will be able to help you with the rebuild better than anyone else.

I actually had to have my heads done on my Chevy Venture back in 2009 when I replaced the lower intake manifold gasket and I found this fairly local engine rebuilding shop and they did both for $125, so that was reasonable. They did a dip in some kind of cleaning solution, planed the heads so they were flat again and checked for cracks. I’ll most likely head there again if we do go ahead with this, which I am seriously considering at this point.

Well I have some good news to report……I think. After my son got back from his trip south, he checked his oil and it wasn’t low at all, in fact it was still above the add oil mark. Could the MMO really have helped that soon?

I guess my best thing to do for now is to keep adding the MMO and make regular oil changes. It’s a lot easier than tearing this thing down. Maybe I won’t have to do it, this year anyway.
